There was a tension to this time, this series of moments, but such was to be expected. Gawain kept his gaze directed ahead as often as he could, though reason dictated a sideways glance now and again, and he took all of the information that he could from these brief scans. Impossible to judge exactly what these witches and wizards might be thinking, though it must be a decent sign that they had not yet rioted ( ... )

Rabastan decided that he had enough time to attend the announcement and hear what the new Minister had to say before he had to call on Narcissa for their outing this evening.

He had taken up a position where he had a good view and could observe quietly, but still remain close to the exit. The Minister was very succinct, not a normal trait in a holder of that office in his experience. He listened to her statement and wondered where the Ministry was getting funding. He knew that Robbards was leading the Aurors, but he wondered what department Weasley headed. Overall, he could not help but think that perhaps a bit less brevity from the Minister might have been better.

Cedric came directly from work in Exeter, so he was still dressed in a suit jacket and tie. He'd already met the Minister, but was interested in hearing her explanation. He'd also seen notice of the fact they were looking for employees, and felt terribly torn. He had a well-paying job already, and he had the museum. But he was trained in politics. Where he'd landed here had been almost accidental, and he wondered if they'd consider advisory positions, or part-time employees. He knew that some of those curating museums were also on university faculty, although it was usually smaller museums.

A tallish, dignified-looking man with a beard was just a little ways down from Cedric. Cedric nodded from politeness, then returned his attention to the podium. He didn't have any questions himself, or none he was prepared to ask in public.

Rabastan inclined his head at the well dressed young man before he returned his attention to the front.

Obviously the curly haired young woman had taken 'this is your invitation to apply' literally, as in 'apply right now.' Rabastan saw a few others enter the queue and wondered if they were also seeking employment. He glanced at his watch and decided he could afford to remain a bit longer to find out.

Marietta had managed to find someone in the Five Alarm who knew where the provisional Ministry was located. She walked there and left a note for Morag to find her at the meeting, then walked to the town hall, her wheeled bag still in tow. When she stopped briefly to freshen up, she pulled out her best set of work robes and put them on. It would be essential to make a good first impression, she thought, fluffing her curly hair and applying some makeup charms to her face. She did her best to hide the faint scars that spelled S N E A K across her nose and cheeks. Even after almost nine years, she was still sensitive about those scars and preferred to hide them if she could.

The town hall was beginning to fill up when Marietta arrived. She found a seat about half-way back, near an aisle, and listened carefully as the new minister, Madam Hopkirk, introduced herself. When the chance came to ask questions, Marietta took it, quickly getting up and into the queue along the wall.

Mafalda waited for the question from the girl next in line, who seemed to have some sort of odd fabric cart she was wheeling about. "Yes?" she prompted.

Now that her turn had arrived, Marietta tried to compose herself. It wouldn't do at all for her to trip over her words just when the Minister herself had recognized her to speak. Swallowing lightly, she took a step forward and spoke up, slowly and clearly.

"Thank you, Minister Hopkirk," she began. "My name is Marietta Edgecombe. I worked in the Floo Network Authority for six years, before the Ministry fell. I would like to obtain a position in the Floo and Transportation Department in the new Ministry, if there are still any openings."

Smiling slightly, Marietta stepped back against the wall. Well, that wasn't too awful, she thought.

Mafalda wasn't sure what sorts of questions people would want to ask, though she did think at least a few would choose to express concerns about her fitness for her position.

Of course, she thought sourly, probably those sorts were the ones who would sit quiet and work to undermine her, instead.

When this one spoke, she remembered, all at once, that though many of the people of this town were effectively veterans of a long war, many of them were also very young. "I believe I knew your ...mother, would she have been, Miss Edgecomb?" Mafalda said. "I see the particular talent for creating the links from point to point must run in the family. Please do see my office at your early convenience; I agree, getting the Floos working would be quite a positive step."

She looked about to see who else might have a question.

Rita had arrived a little early, set herself up in a chair near the front with notebook and quill. She would introduce herself to the Minister later, ask for a private word to give her something to publish that the town's residents had not already heard, and hope the woman was obliging ( ... )
