With a sickening lurch, Su landed in a heap, her suitcase skittering across the floor. She sighed; she had never quite grasped the concept of being able to land gracefully after using a portkey. Standing up and dusting herself off, Su glanced around and almost cried. She knew that Platform 9 3/4 was no longer used since there was no longer a Hogwarts Express, but to actually see it abandoned and forgotten made her heart ache. She stared at the dusty, empty tracks, half-expecting to see the red engine slowly chug up to the platform, to suddenly hear the laughter and chatter of excited students as they ran about, renewing old friendships and rivalries.

Shaking her head, Su cleared the memories of those more idyllic days from her mind. Picking up her suitcase, she carefully walked to the barrier, and with one last look, stepped through to the chaotic world of King's Cross Station at rush hour. It had been planned that she would arrive at this time, since it was so crowded, no one would notice that she had seemingly stepped out of a brick wall. After wandering around for awhile, trying to get her bearings, Su finally found the correct exit, where the car she had arranged for was waiting for her.

After an uneventful journey, she had the Muggle driver stop about half an hour away from Stoatshead Hill. Paying the very confused driver, ("Are you sure you want to be left here, Miss?") Su began the long trek to the village. As soon as she heard the car depart, she placed a levitating charm on her suitcase, so that it would float behind her. Without the heavy distraction, Su began thinking of the last few days. Predictably, her parents had been vehemently opposed to her going back to Britain. They weren't convinced that the war was really over, and besides, why should she go back to a war-torn country, when she could be perfectly happy in China and meet a nice Chinese boy and raise nice Chinese children? Ok, so they didn't actually say the last part, but Su knew that it was implied. After telling them that she was an adult, that she had already made all the arrangements to leave, and that she was going to leave no matter what they did, even if it meant her being cut off from the rest of the family, they capitulated, convinced this was just some "stage" she was going through. After all, if she left without her parents' blessing, her family would lose face, especially her father. She could practically hear the gossip of her neighbors: "he can't even control a daughter, he must have no control over his household."

Su was startled out of her ruminations when what had appeared to be a stand of trees, suddenly turned into a cluster of houses. She had passed through the wards set up protecting the village from any Muggles that might be wandering around. She was finally in Stoatshead Hill. She was home.
An hour later, Su finally found her flat, in a building called Copper Towers. She had quickly found that Stoatshead Hill was a rather larger than a village, and that those first few houses were damaged and on the very outskirts of the town. After getting lost a couple of times, she was finally pointed in the right direction by an older witch, who she didn't recognize. Come to think of it, she hadn't recognized anyone walking around, which she thought was odd. Didn't Lisa say that lots of people were in Stoatshead?

Opening the door to 1A, Su looked around at her new home. It was pretty small, compared to the family's home back in Shanghai, but it was perfect for her, even if the Muggles who lived there before seemed to have a penchant for pink roses. Propping the door open, she opened her suitcase, and started the lengthy process of restoring all her belongings to normal size. So many emotions were running through her mind, excitment, relief, nervousness. Well, no matter what happened, this would certainly be an adventure.
