Martel, understandably, pauses at the unmissable implication that Maria's doing something insane (again). Setting his jaw slightly with an 'oh god, what the hell is she doing now' kind of look in his eyes, he dips his head and murmurs a polite thank you, hands in his pockets while he goes down the hall.

Castellano by way of the Cordoba province is almost definitely not quite what Maria would otherwise have learned, but Martel's fluent and helpful.

(And it's usually a good idea to limit his options for having private conversations in front of people.)

Maria is in the process of buckling her second and final shoe; when she hears footsteps in the hallway not far from her room, she stands and straightens up, looking entirely innocent. If you ignore what she's wearing. Or the way she's smirking. Or...anything about her, at the moment.
