Zac Efron is a Scarily Good Actor.

Today I saw him in "Miracle Run" on Lifetime (which is what my mother saw him in before HSM, and kept saying he was amazing in), in which he plays an autistic boy. My mother works with autistic/special education children (which from time-to-time I assit her with, especially during the summer), and my sister's best friend's little brother is ( Read more... )

Yeah...I do remember hearing something about him researching the role deeply like that. Which makes me happy that he took a deep role like that dealing with such a complicated issue so seriously, like it should be treated. I'd like him to know how moved I was by it, but I suppose the best I can do IS an open (nonfriends-only) post in my blog solely about it! XD And hope maybe he somehow comes across it ( ... )

XD Yeah, he DID seem to mess up an awful lot in the bloopers for HSM2, but that's the magic of Hollywood editing. Although in his defense, he probably had more chances to mess up seeing as he is the main character.

And he was absolutley fantastic in this movie.

I just saw this movie again, and you are so right. The scene in the bathroom touched me so much. I heard that Zac read a book on autism to help with his research. I'm still amazed, though.

I don't know what it is with Lifetime movies, man, but they always move someone. Especially She's Too Young, Odd Girl Out, and OF COURSE, Miracle Run. I hope Queen-Sized (the one with Nikki Blonsky) is just as good, too.

Oh yes, that was probably one of if not the most powerful scene in the movie, the bathroom scene. And so true. Seeing an autistic child have an episode like that (which I have had to deal with before when helping my mother during summer camp, although those kids are much younger) is horrifying because it's so hard to know what to say and do that will calm them down and not scare them more, and again, Zac pulled that (i want to say "imitation" but that doesn't sound right) performance of it amazingly true-to-life ( ... )

Hmm...I actually didn't even think of that. It would certainly explain some of his awkwardness in interviews and how uncomfortable he seems to be around people off-screen, practically hiding behind Vanessa sometimes. And you're right, autistic people tend to be extremely talented still, especially in things like the arts and his amazing acting could fall into that. And portraying an autistic person so well as he did may have been a bit easier for him if he was in the autistic spectrum to just exaggerate on episodes he may have personally felt or had.

XD You've got me thinking now and I want to go back and rewatch all the interviews with him to check for signs of it!! Because it certainly does seem possible now that I think about it...
