The sun was beginning to set on another day at the castle.  The festival was still going strong, with games and food seemingly all around.  She took a long walk around the castle, quietly thankful that she was home - at least for a little while, anyway.

It had been a couple of days since she had last seen Clive - she hoped he was doing all right in ( Read more... )

After a pause, Clive turned away from the booth as well and trailed after her. He too had quietly purchased the smallest slice of the strawberry flavour left available, along with a napkin to eat it on. He was a little dubious about the thing, which looked dauntingly sweet, but had decided that if Elza found cheesecake suitable to eat it was probably okay.

"I'm not sure," he admitted when he had caught up, walking a little gingerly on his injured leg. He glanced aside at her. "I figured I'd leave that decision to you. I mean... I went to Caleria to get some answers for myself. But it seems like Vinay del Zexay might have more answers for you."

"I didn't have a chance to ask you...what all did you manage to find out before I managed to get to you?" Elza finished her second piece of cheesecake and wiped her mouth.

Elza paused in thought, remembering her own horror when she realized who the new Guildmaster presumably was.

"Clive...I wish more than anything that it weren't true. That Kelly..." She paused, remembering the cold look in his eyes when she faced him. "I wish things hadn't turned out this way." There was a tone of regret in her voice as she spoke about it. "He was our best friend and...I..." Elza searched for words. "I wish that there was something we could do to make him see..." Her voice drifted off.

Clive fell into a grim silence as well. He looked aside, deliberately studying the booths they walked past. Kelly wasn't his brother by birth, but he had always considered him as such. He hadn't met their old friend face to face, like Elza had... it was difficult to imagine he was alive. A part of him still refused to believe that he was, and that he had changed into someone as pitiless as she had described.

"I don't know if there's anything we can do," he finally said, grudgingly. "I think one day we're gonna have to confront him, though. Especially if the Guild keeps sending men after us."
