Pimm's Cup

Was a lovely drink Tony and I shared Saturday night (they were serving them at the Doctor Who tea party, I believe). Wikipedia gives several variations; the one below looks the closest to what we had. Since several of the recipes call for ginger syrup, I'm going to guess that ginger ale in this recipe is what I'd call ginger beer-the sweet fizzy ( Read more... )

Um. That's a fancy Pimm's cup y'got there.

The gin is a booster- usually it's a jigger of Pimm's no. 1 (available many, many places), Ginger ale/Ginger beer or 7Up, and a cucumber spear or slice, in a highball glass- or at least that's how we served it at the Dansker in Pattaya. Muddle the garnish? Hm. And Hm.

It's often used as a cooler or a Bloody Mary without the Bloody Mary. Pimm's is technically a bitter, like Angostura is-and actually, they have similar flavours. There used to be a wide variety of Pimm's bitters available, all with different spirit bases, but now all I ever see is the "no. 1".

Oh- by "everywhere" I mean that up here I get it at Haskell's, Surdyk's, I've seen it at MGM and lots of the big volume stores- nor is it terribly expensive...
