Oh boy. How do you let someone down gently? There's this guy who I'm sort of working with (he's in a different department but we occasionally deal with each other). According to his two coworkers he has a crush on me, and since it's the second time I heard that rumor, I'm inclined to believe it. They claim he's too shy to ask me out but would I ( Read more... )

Well, (not) surprisingly, the internet gives you advice even on these things. I need to be firm and honest. Any made up excuse such as "I'm not ready for a relationship at the moment" or "I have a boyfriend" will just make it worse. :) (Although I did, for a second, entertain the idea of saying "I have a girlfriend", just to see the reaction.)

Please remember that you don't owe anyone anything, even out of politeness. Just say no thank you. <3

I think the hardest to remember is that I don't owe anyone an explanation why I won't go out with him. Thankfully nobody asked for one, either, my "no" was accepted. :) (Not that the guy himself asked...)

Hehehe, the walnut tree! It made me laugh, even though it's kinda weird.

And what the others said, just be honest with him.

It was pretty weird (the sign's gone by now, probably blown off by the storm last week). It took me several times driving past to read the whole thing, too, which made it even stranger.

I was honest. Not with him, because he still didn't ask, but I told his coworkers no.

The walnut tree note made me laugh, too.

Good luck with the letting down as I have no actual advice.

It made me laugh after I'd read the whole thing (that took driving by a couple of times). Without seeing the signature the sign was pretty strange.

I didn't have to tell him personally, because it was still only his coworkers who asked (I have no idea if they even told him). Which was a bit awkward, but I just said no and that was that.
