I like Ninjas better than pirates. Too bad there's not a "Talk Like A Ninja Day" because they are, alas, silent (but deadly.)

And thank you for your very interesting and informative post, Mr. Falksen!

Yes, but there is a town in California that has an annual Ninja Parade! The whole point of this event is to *not* see any ninjas. Awesome!

Will be saving this for future consultation. As a historic clothier, I have been asked on numerous occasions to make a "Victorian pirate frock coat." Now I know what a pirate frock coat is and I know what a Victorian frock coat is but the two are a good 80 years apart and I try to explain that and tell them to get me a picture of it and I can reproduce it. Because I want to give them what they want (even if it does not exist) but Victorian pirate does not explain what they, the customer, wants

Ah ha! Will, I daresay a Victorian pirate's frock coat would look like any other Victorian's frock coat, though perhaps displaying some sign of the wearer's travels. A pirate operating in Asia might commission garments of silk; one who travels the Ivory Coast might use beautiful African fabrics.

But I am firmly of the opinion that a customer ought to be clear with what they want. Titles are all well and good, but descriptions are even better.
