Stephen King fans: should I watch the mini-series version of "The Stand" when it comes on this afternoon, or should I wait until I've read the book so that it's un-tainted by potential Syfy channel fail?

Also, damn. Between working as a secretary at the bleakest real estate office on the planet and dealing with spastic Labradoodles all morning, I ( Read more... )

I haven't seen the miniseries :x I heard it was "meh" but had good moments.

still, novel > everything else. (Although The Stand graphic novels are pretty cash).

Okay, good to know. I think I'll check it out for kicks.

Dude, your icon. What a creeper. See, I have this problem where I imagine Randall Flagg looking very much like Titus Welliver, at this point. :P

LOL there's nothing wrong with imagining him looking like that ;D although his description in the book looks nothing like Titus lol. His appearance changes more or less in every book he's in he might've looked like MIB at some point, I think :3

LABRADOODLES

LABRADOODLES ARE BAD.

There are about six who are regular boarders/daycare dogs at the vet, and every single one of them is dumb and insane. I love all dogs by default, even when they're terribly behaved, but these dudes are strong, hyperactive, and do not listen to directions. Not a good combo. They're trying my patience to the extreeeeme.

My advice is read the book first. The miniseries will pale more in comparison, although remains a lot of fun. That said, sort of like watching any film based on Dune or anything else enormous, you'll understand more of what's going on in a shortened up version.

Also the book is fairly awesome, imo. It's probably affected my style more than I want to admit.

That was fucked up somehow. By reading the book, I mean you'll get what's going on in a miniseries more clearly. Because they make shortcuts in the series and you'll understand connections if you've read the story instead of having to go WTF.

I never had any caffeine today and my brain is in this rough draft I was working on.

Ah, gotcha. Will do. Typically I'd read the book first by default, but I don't know when this'll be on TV next, hence the dilemma.

I saw jusy the first few minutes of it on Syfy and it already freaked me the hell out. I have this problem (read: complete phobia and paranoia) with pandemics, and this is pushing all my OMGWTFSHIT buttons, despite the eighties-tasticness of it all.

That makes me kind of even more excited to read the book. :D
