Remember in 2004 when all of those Europeans were shocked that Bush pulled out a second term? Feelings abroad were so anti-Bush that it was hard for anyone to imagine how that could happen ( Read more... )

McCain has a very good chance.

It's easy to forget how differently conservatives and liberals see the world. For example, liberals look at Sarah Palin and go, "Oh, dear lord, who the hell would PICK someone like that?"

Yet, for the most part, the conservative right is drooling all over her. William Kristol, for example, was bored stupid by Michelle Obama's speech at the convention -- his word for it was "generic" -- but his article on Palin is entitled, "A Star Is Born?":

Well the question mark at the end of the title nails it. This is disheartening.

Well, here's what I've been hearing (hah).

According to several newsy type sites, Obama's near tie with McCain is probably the result of the fact that most of Obama's supporters are young adults, and young working folks, many of whom only have a cell phone number.

The polls are randomized out of public phone numbers, ergo, cell phone numbers are not on that list. People who tend to be older (and more likely to still have a house line, conversely) tend to be more conservative and more likely to vote for McCain.

How true that is, I have no idea.

I hope there's more to that cell phone argument than there was 4 years ago (and there probably is). But that was one explanation for why Kerry was doing so badly in the polls and we all know how that turned out. :(

But thanks, I appreciate the insight.

That's true too... but I also never saw the mania for Kerry that I see for Obama. I'm just hoping it lasts til November. :|

That's true--things were completely different four years ago. But even though Kerry wasn't nearly as popular as Obama, it still surprised me (and many, I think) that he couldn't pull out a victory.

Thank you! I was looking for the one I followed in 2004. This might be it; it looks very similar.

It's hard to get a feel for how it's going to go in a place as RedRedRedState as southern Indiana. I am hoping against hope that Obama can pull it out and win. I'm worried though about the racism thing. There's a hell of a lot of racist people out where I'm at :(

Any chance you can cross the border and vote in Ohio? ;)

That's a good 3 hours away lol :) However, I am proud to say that my county is one of the THREE out of 97 that went blue last election :)

Hooray! :) In my hometown (Quincy, IL), I think it's the only red county surrounded by a sea of blue. Or it was the last time I watched election coverage there, which was, okay, 1996. I guess there could easily be a huge infection of red there nowadays but hell would freeze over before Adams County goes blue.

We call McCain the crypt keeper.
hehehehe

But yea, Im afraid he does have a chance. People love to vote on single issues.
