Interesting story. I sincerely empathise with Sam here - having so, so many questions, but when you actually get the chance to ask them, you come up blank. Human psychology at its finest.

Such a quirky, thoughtful story. So many wonderful touches and flashes of humour and seriousness (I find I'm now worrying about that generational ship from Alpha Centauri)
If there is an an answer to 'Why?', then I suspect the closest thing we'll ever get to it is wrapped up in this story.
