Summary: Taking a stroll through the Empty, Death finds Billie hard at work.
A/N: Only a week late...

"Well, this is a surprise," said Death, on spotting his replacement busy making something in the Empty. "But I don't recall you ever taking an active interest in such things," he added, gesturing to the open cans of paint and glue, and the rolls of paper and sticky tape.

Billie smiled back at her former mentor, still managing to look calm and collected despite the glitter in her hair and the tape stuck to her sleeve.

"Sometimes you only truly appreciate something when you realize you might lose it," she explained while ripping off another strip of tape with her teeth. "So... what do you think?" she asked, stepping back to gaze down at her creation with a satisfied smile.

Death paused before speaking. "Is it supposed to look like that?"

Billie frowned. "It is maybe a little rough around the edges," she admitted, doubt creeping into her voice.

"Rustic?" offered Death.

"Exactly," declared Billie with relieved confidence.

Death hummed in agreement. "Sorry, what is it again?" he asked after a beat.

"Humanity 2.0. I thought we ought to have a backup plan."

"Oh, don't listen to me, then," laughed Death, "I never thought the first lot would take off."
