Artsy wangsty stuff

*Warning: Image heavy *

So I've been pottering about  deviantart  (DA) lately and as usual, I'll start to wank about why God didn't bless me with the astounding artistic talent of say, heise or say, Stephanie Pui Mun Law.
*sad panda :( *

I dread visiting DA  although I love art. That place is infested with digital artists who copy the same anime ( Read more... )

At least you have talent at all. Me? I can draw stick figures, and that's the extent of my "artistic drawing talent".

Those artists' art are gorgeous though. =D

I think everyone's artistic talent is quite varied in what they can and cannot do. For example, I'm great at replicating what I see, and when I draw people without a guide my people tend to look flat and stiff as if they're posing and not moving--meanwhile, my prose is the exact opposite. I for one have a hard time juxtaposing a great scene all at once, but given time... which I rarely spend drawing, anymore... mmmyes...

I think developing one's style is also a matter of personal taste and what they use it for. I've seen awesome realistic artists struggle with cartoons. I for one can't draw anime for the life of me.

I guess you are right in everyone's artistic style being varied, but it's not so much as replicating that irks me.

I can do that. Copying and replicating. I can do that pretty darn well...It's just that I would like to come up with something that has a distinctive *Ling* stamp to it...and not just an "Oh. Thats nice" sort of thing

HAHAHAH. I sound so anal. :P

If you want originality draw a drunk leprechaun hidden in every picture.

Or, you can just be yourself and draw and develop with time.

I think my personal style's a reflection of animation and comics, but whatever. And I can't condemn the anime panty-shot... I like my topless men shots...

You might be right! I'll make it a point to draw a hidden "Naru" in everything I do now.

Yeah. I think the biggest problem with myself is the fact that I lack patience and, figuratively, always want to learn how to run even before I can walk. :D

At least you have talent! Me? I kinda started drawing then gave up upon seeing how much work i had to do to get as good as some of those artists. Yup. I is a quitter. You, on the other hand, have talent and are trying to become better. That's a good sign [/crappy Mena voice]

My crappy crap
Seriously, you are good.

Every single talented artist I've met calls their own art crap. :P

See this? It's some 5x better than my first digital attempt.
(...Which I shall not post up, fearing that it may crack the screens of computers world wide)

...but I was recently pointed in the direction of your previous entry from Feb 26th regarding my review of FF:Advent Children and just wanted to say thank you, your comments bookending the review made me smile. All the best with your business degree!

*SHOCK*

How on earth did my journal link get all the way around to you? XD

Thanks for the well wishes!
And thank you for writing such an honest review, which was refreshing to read after I have been bombarded with other reviews/opinions that reeked heavily of fanboyism. :)

Apparently Google has some means of searching specifically amongst weblogs and someone searched for me and came up with this page! I would have posted on the page with the actual article, but feedback was forbidden there.

In terms of fanboyism, I can understand. I was also very frustrated with other reviews of the film. Many FF fans seemed to latch on to positive reviews (mostly from game websites) and attack negative reviews as being from folks who didn't 'get it'.

Personally I've completed Final Fantasy VII twice, so the identity of Sephiroth, for instance, was no mystery to me! But still I feel it was a genuinely awful film!

That is right on the dot actually. I had posted your review at Daeya.org forums some time ago, and it was immediately criticized by one of the regular members (a fanboy who, for whatever reason, loves to act holier-than-thou). Oh, and I hope that you don't mind that I linked that review at a couple of different message boards that I sometimes post at. I wanted to see how fanboys would react to a (negative-yet-honest) review.

sdjlf'dfsl that is some sexy artwork ♥

And you're right, it IS inspiring to know that those we admire were actually bad once. I guess everyone needs a reminder that nobody starts out that talented. It also brings to mind images of my Writing God, Neil Gaiman writing crappy self-inserts as a boy, and that's always fun to imagine. >D

Anyway, won't babble too much, just wanted to drop by and leave a thanks for the friending. *hugs*
