does the icon of wizard hold useful meaning in the realms of magick

IMHO, not really. Unfortunately, words like "Wizard," "Witch," "Warlock," all have their roots in ignorant Medieval Western notions from a very biased Christian culture. The terms are negative and demeaning at worst, or romantic, fanciful, and unrealistic at best.

My 2 pence worth.
