Maintaining weaponry was something familiar and oddly comforting, even if Haku was adverse to the act of killing that they were used in. The ritualistic motions fully required his attention as he carefully sharpened the edges with a wet whetstone, occasionally lifting the kunai and looking at it closely. Once he was satisfied with his work, he wiped the kunai with a rag, setting it on the floor with the others that he had already done. Had he been working on a sword, he would have gone a little further to polish it, to make the steel seemingly glow from within as light hit it, revealing it in all its brilliance

Kakashi shook his head slightly, bringing himself out the reverie he was in.
"No, Haku, I think that's it." Kakashi sat back on his hands, head canted, a sad smile quirking his lip. Silently, he got up, and walked towards the boy, and knelt in front of him. Raising up his arms he encircled Haku, his arms locking across the small of the boy's back. He rested his cheek on Haku's thigh while his fingers made little circles on his back.
He didn't want to be parted from Haku, was that too much to ask?
Was it odd that Kakashi was behaving this way right now, as if seeking some form of contact from him? Perhaps, but it was a gesture he welcomed, and Haku calmly stroked Kakashi's hair, carding his fingers through silver locks.
Haku did see the sad smile that appeared on Kakashi's face just moments ago, and he wondered what that was about. Maybe, he could ask...
At first, Kakashi avoided slid his eyes closed, and breathed in deeply, comforted by Haku's scent and his warmth.
Finally, he hesitantly spoke, unable to avoid the direct question any longer. "I suppose that I just don't want to lose you." Subconsciously he gripped Haku tighter.
