I have queer fingers!

I just watched "The Making of Me" with John Barrowman.   His episode was about discovering the "cause" or "source" of male homosexuality.  It was pretty interesting, if not scientifically rigorous.  It certainly had an agenda, but since it was pretty upfront about it, I'm not going to bitch ( Read more... )

My ring fingers are significantly longer than my index fingers, which according to the studies corrolates to high pre-natal exposure to testosterone, which may be a precursor to straightness in men and lesbianism in women.

Huh, that's interesting. I guess since my ring fingers are only about almost an inch longer that's why I'm only bisexual and not full-on gay. XD

I'm bisexual too. I like the word "queer" because it covers the entire spectrum. Labels are for boxes. ;)

Well, technically I think the reason why they wouldn't look for the "gay gene" on the Y chromosome is because someone only ever has one Y chromosome (genentic disorders such as YYX or other such things aside), any gene on there is automatically expressed, so if the gay gene was on the Y chromsome, he'd be gay, which would mean straight men couldn't have gay sons ( ... )

You go with your long index fingered, liking girls self! YAY! :)

Thank you for the explanation. I'm not a biologist either, and I appreciate an explanation in layman's terms. I don't think that a "gay gene" is all that makes you gay. I think it's far more complicated than that.

Yeah, JB didn't react badly to the outcome of the "woman's brain" test, but I have a feeling that was because in the verbal test he topped out the scale. He was more gay than gay! :) That strikes me as the kind of thing JB would be proud of.

I, too, have androgenic hands. I have heard that this can be linked to mothers being under very high levels of stress whilst the child is in utero, and in my own mother's case -- Radiotherapy tech, finishing her internship while preggers, -- I know this to be true.

Personally, I have to wonder at the effect my being exposed to radioactivity thusly might have had as well, but to date, there have been no instances of going green and hulking out, so I guess it's probably safe to say I won't suddenly develop the ability to spin webs and scale smooth walls anytime soon either...

If you develop the ability to spin webs and scale walls I shall be very jealous. *pouts*

Okay, my index fingers are longer than my ring fingers. Does this mean I'm normal?

*confused by the whole concept of "normal"*

As for the idea of aborting fetuses with the gay gene...there was a movie on either Showtime or HBO several years ago that touched on exactly that: a woman from a conservative family finds out that her unborn baby carries the "gay gene." I think she ended up having the baby, but there was much angsting.

Normal? No such thing. An index finger longer than a ring finger is simply supposed to corrolate with straightness in women and gayness in men. But hey, corrolation is not causation, right?
