3 Sad, Sad Stories

Ahhhh, I write with a heavy heart this evening!! Hogwarts, is this really my last year in your hallowed and only occasionally musty halls? Has it really been seven years since the Sorting Hat sat atop my little first year head and made uncomfortable noises for nearly twenty minutes?

I see the confused faces on the firsties, and I am overcome. ( Read more... )

all the feelings, hopefully just a metaphor

Could always try chilling out? You're supposed to be glad to be almost out of here.

"Chill out"?

I don't see how lowering my body temperature would help my situation!

There is no situation, though.

I must admit, your insistence has given me pause. And, having done some thinking in that pause, you are absolutely right. I don't have a situation.

I HAVE AN ARMY OF SMALLER SITUATIONS THAT JUST LOOK LIKE ONE BIG SITUATION FROM A DISTANCE!!

Would you shut up?

Oh, absolutely not! That's a request, you see. I only listen to the requests of those valiant enough to have earned my respect through a trial of fire!!

Of course, you could try to make me.

But if your past self doesn't like your present self, why don't you just make yourself happier?

I thought this was nostalgia, but now that you mention it, it could very well be sadness! It could be so very, very sad, sad, saaaaad indeed! Is that what this is? IS THIS UNHAPPINESS?! Do you think this is a matter of self-dissatisfaction?!

When I'm nostalgic, it's because I'm sad for things because I miss them. I'm not dissatisfied, just lonely. Are you dissatisfied?

Dissatisfied... dissatisfied...

You're right.

You're completely right.

Knitting? How would that help my situation?

Redirect the energy inside of you and make neat hats out of it!

The staff and teachers tend to very strongly disapprove of me having anything that could even vaguely resemble a weapon, but for the sake of argument:

Let's say I acquire some delightfully pointy knitting needles! And some lessons, as without those, all I would make would be tortured, tangled yarn! What kind of neat hats do I make to properly contain these thundering emotions?!

I had no idea we had such passionate students.

Sometimes I feel as if I'm the only passionate student left in this school! Everyone else is a shadow, a dull and shambling mockery of the human heart!!

Er... yes, of course. And how do you feel about the teachers?

I expect the teachers to live up to the expectations I have of them. For the last seven years, they have frowned so very very heavily on my habits that I have become used to it! The skin that covers my psyche - the skin of my soul! - has grown quite calloused to their ways.
