I officially hate windows.

I wanted to install Ubuntu on my computer but keep Vista for iTunes and stuff. I needed to shink my C drive so I had a ~10Gb partition to put Ubuntu on. However, my harddrive was all whacked and I needed to defrag it. I did it like 5 times because the files in the part I needed to move just would not move. I got annoyed and was all "I'll restart, ( Read more... )

Ubuntu ftw! Why not just use VMWare? I have a laptop with a distro of Ubuntu my brother put together and I use VMWare with XP.

Unless that's what you're doing already. In which case, Ubuntu ftw!

I don't know what VMWare is... Is it Windows in a window? I really wanted to keep Vista on so I could keep all my iPod stuff, but I've had to do a complete reset, so I don't know.

Mum said I should go see 'the linux guy' who lives here. I was all wtf? We're going to see if he's still around today and I'll go see him tomorrow. :)

It's too bad you're in NZ, darling! My older brother is a Linux genius.

VMWare is Windows in a window, yes. Google it, because I'm only semi literate about it. Basically it's a smaller window within your Linux OS that shows Windows.

Also, try GTKPod for your iPod stuff. I lurve it. Saves you the trouble of iTunes, though the user interface isn't as pretty.

IMHO it's easier to start with Ubuntu, use that boot loader and then make a partition for windows. Linux is much more friendly when it comes to multi-booting. Now mind you, it's been a few years since I've up a system like this so I don't remember the step exactly, but I am sure there are helpful thing online. :)

VMware and windows is also an option if you don't mind the slowness that comes with it.

P.S. Ubuntu rulez! I have it on my baby lappy (aka Nubbin)

The only think I'm worried about is drivers and stuff. This computer didn't come with a disc, or anything, and I don't have a Vista disc. I have a fake XP disc, but that's all.

I want Ubuntu, but it's so much hassle.
