that's so interesting...you could easily write a paper simply discussing the differences and the reasons behind that. keep it in mind for a masters thesis :)

I can't help but wonder if this has been done already. It seems so obvious to me, as I have been thinking about the portrayal of Judith for years.

Can you do your masters thesis based only on art comparisons and interpretations? I'll probably be using this as one of my BFA papers, since I have the idea now. So I can send it in to get into the Masters program *nods, grinning*

tis possible, but you could find that pretty easily doing a thesis search from this website:

Theses Canada

which, so my teachers have informed me, contains a list of all theses papers ever submitted in canada...or maybe north america...i'm not sure....

and as far as i know, you can do your thesis on anything, as long as it's interesting, related to your field of study, and you have a lot to say about it, and it can be studied through lots of research. but when going for your masters, you'd have a prof watching over you and helping you with your ideas..

haha! this is wonderful, considering i was just discussing this in my "Topics in Art Education" class last week. we were more focused on Artemisia Gentileschi, and watched an exert of her movie (which i would like to properly see), and discussed different artists that have portrayed judith's seduction and decapatation of the general (captain?). seriously, we should get together and watch artemisia, i think we would both get a kick out of it. it is not necessarily a correct portrayal of what happened to her, it is soley an interpretation, but entertaining none the less.

I've loved Artemisia for ages. Being a woman painting this event really changes everything, especially since she herself was raped by an authority figure and could hardlydo anything about it. The diliberate will is so unmistakeable on her face. There was another painting i know of but couldn't find (I thought it was by Carravagio, but I must be mistaken) where Judith's arm is laying out just as if it accidentally and effortlessly fell on Holofernes’ neck. Puts me in “stupid painter-man” mode ( ... )

hmmm...very interesting.....I still like Caravaggio though.....regardless the third one from the top...the Holger Maas work, kind of reminds me of like one of those two girls and a guy in the jungle porno's gone horribly wrong...or like Judith Barbie maybe.....
