[There's a gurgle and a loud splash, then the unmistakable sound of water churning rapidly. Maybe some dripping in between. Umi's startled voice comes from seemingly underwater, loud but still far away.]

[For the sake of keeping the apartment in one piece and also because something inside her simply craved the proximity of the ocean, Umi decided the beach was a safe bet for spending the rest of this last curse.

She still isn't used to experiencing the world through Celes' magical senses, but the waves soothe her remarkably. She's sitting on the shore, letting the tide rush against her large dragon body and enjoying how she can feel each of them grow, rise, then guess the exact moment when they'll break.

Perhaps this isn't too bad. She shakes her head and whistles loudly, a musical sound like nothing she's ever heard before.

It actually feels a bit like herself.]

I've known a few nice dragons. So now that I understand, there's no need to be intimidated.

[Leans back on his hands, beaming.]

And I'm Setsuna, Umi. I don't have a guardian spirit, though. Far as I know. I did have a guardian angel, but that's kind of twisted.

Bigger? Maybe it's good I ran into you, then. You seem fairly large to me.

Guardian angel, huh? That'd sound tough to believe if I hadn't seen you in action! Are you one too?

[But she can relate to the idea of friendly dragons! Not that Celes isn't quite ferocious, but he doesn't mean anyone harm unless they threaten Cephiro. Umi scratches the back of her huge head with a wing's talon thoughtfully.]

Celes is like ten times bigger. Really impressive! But he's also nice. You can guess how bad I FREAKED OUT when first my magic went bonkers and then... ehhh. I ended up looking just like him.

I was the reincarnation of an angel. But I thought we fixed that. Then I came here, and it seems some of her powers and abilities stuck around. Back home I just have no need of them. I guess.

[Impressed smile.] That's a big dragon, then. This Celes. I think I'd like to meet him. But yeah, I can imagine. This place does that to people. I spent most of my time here baffled and disturbed.

[She looks confused, maybe even troubled for a moment, and the waves around her become a bit wilder.]

---Uhh. Sorry about that! [So she closes her eyes and focuses and the tide gets calmer again.] It just keeps happening.

I wish I could introduce you! But Celes is back in Cephiro, along with the rest of our friends. He's... probably too much for this place to handle.

[Looks curiously at the waves.]

It's okay. Maybe I'll get to meet this Celes one day. It's cool just to get to meet you.

That's so sad... [And wouldn't you know, the tide feels colder, as does the moist air around them. Umi lowers her huge head, long neck arching down.] What could she have done to deserve that punishment....?

Well, formerly it was because she attacked her brother, and then said she loved God. Technically it was because the guy in charge of punishing her was in love with her and felt if he couldn't have her, then he would make it so no one could.

[Shivers a little and looks perplexed, then a little irritated as he looks at Umi again.] You weren't kidding about having trouble with it.

And I don't think you're prying. I was asking questions, too. Seems fair, to me.

But that's unfair! She was punished because a random guy was jealous of her love for... GOD?? Jeez, I'd have a thing or two to tell that jerk if I ever met him. About dealing with a lady's rejection, for starters!

Well, for the angels, loving God was a sin. And he learned his lesson. He suffered for hundreds of years, wallowing in his guilt. He ripped out his voice box so he couldn't speak. Crazy-ass crap like that.
