[The feed turns on to a room that is a little foggy. Mostly smoke but Holmes isn't one to open the window when there is snow outside. He is, however, hazing out the window at the snow. Watching the people a bit before he turns his attention to the camera. Obviously this wasn't an accident.]I suppose it is customary to wish others a Happy ( Read more... )

[Watson sees the post as he's coming home, having seen to the clinic for the evening before retiring for the holidays. He's a good man that way. Watson's initial thought is that no -- their enemies don't deserve mercy after the way he and his comrades in tragedy have been treated -- but Watson is an inherently good man. If the Witches can find it in themselves to let this day pass peacefully, Watson would extend his gratitude to them.]

[He enters the room with some noise, thumping the snow and mud off his shoes as he gets in, making a face at the smoke but not looking too put out by it.] Holmes, my dear old friend, do open the windows. This is absolutely poisonous.

I try now and then. It's a shame to lose touch of your wonderful method.

[but he looks back at Holmes, and smiles.] They were a rather lonely three years, but I find that it is easy to be content now that you've returned.

I am sure your attempts will have some minimal success.

[Small eyebrow twitch because...that is all he can do to react to what little guilt he actually will allow himself over those three years. To be fair though, what happened to Mary was un-forseen.]

It was not my intention to leave you alone for so long, Watson. When we return to London...it will only be three months before what we have here can be regained in our own flat.

[But his memories of this place will be gone when he is returned, is that not the case? Watson will return and live life as if this never happened, would be miserable for those three months before Holmes returns. It seems like an unbearable misery now, but Watson knows that it will be easy enough. Three months is nothing to three years, and besides, one could not miss what one did not know.]

[Besides, besides, Watson knows that this here, what they have now, will sustain him even if he's not aware of it.]

It will sustain me through those months, my friend. Doubtless.

[Holmes hardly believes that even magic can make a person forget the things that have happened.

He nodded quickly before turning to look back out at the fallen snow.]

I am glad to hear that. I will admit that it is difficult to await my return with any patience.

[You would be surprised, Holmes, at the kind of things magic can do to a person. But Watson thinks that this is poor attitude for the season and resolves to be more positive about it. He puts a pack of gauze in his bag, pleased to find that this one has many, many more pockets for his things.]

Three months shall fly speedily, and then we shall resume our former arrangement of living together, shall we not? Perhaps I shall be able to retain the little cooking that I’ve learned here - what I wouldn’t do for some of Mrs. Hudson’s gooseberry pies!

[Magic is a wonder, but the human will and psyche is even more so.

He quirks an eyebrow at Watson.]

My dear, dear Watson. While your cooking is much more improved here...I'm afraid that in the presence of our esteemed landlady, I would in fact decline your efforts readily.

I'll have to agree with your thought, old fellow. [impish grin] There really is no comparison to be made. Though perhaps in the article of tea, I am not so bad.

[Holmes looked openly pensive for a moment.]

Perhaps. There has been lenty of chance for you to perfect that particular craft.

There has been. [agreeably] Would you like some tea right now, Holmes?

[A smile.]

Watson, that would be most enjoyable.

Your wish is my command. [teasing, as he leaves the bag packing to shuffle off to make them both tea.]

[Holmes chuckles lightly and actually settles up right in the chair. He won't flop down for a while. He's being civil. Just for Watson.]
