Okay, so, this one will take some explaining. All original stuff - NO DON'T RUN AWAY
Sarah and I were watching a
Michael Swaim video on Cracked about youtube videos there are waaaay too many of (yes, that's a Cracked link, I'll wait for you to come back), one of which was ANIMAL FIGHTS of all imaginable kinds. Almost immediately, we hopped on youtube and started putting in random pairs of animals - many of which actually did return results. Eventually, we stumbled across peacock versus squirrel, which was not a fight so much as them being friends. I don't recall who, but one of us said "Peacock/squirrel, I ship it."
And, well. With my penchant for drawing humanoids based on non-human things, I immediately was set upon by the urge to draw them.
I'm sure you are all going AKEMI WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO GET TO THE PICTURES. Here we go.
Initial concept work. Squirrel on the left, peacock on the right. (I don't yet have proper names for them, so Squirrel and Peacock they are until I figure it out.)
More. Peacock is an aristocrat, and he lives in the big aristocratic hangout called the Aviary. (Most of the people there are based off of birds.) It is uncharitably called the Birdcage by people who don't live there.
This is Hummingbird. I think she will be more effective in color. (She wears green, and the jewel at her throat is red.) I'm not sure what she's doing, but there she is.
There were makeouts here, but they were crappy so I didn't scan them. Peacock can't sing for beans, which is something of a sore point with him since musical ability is highly valued in the Aviary.
Conceptual work for dudes based off of toucans and those spectacular orange birds of paradise with the enormous orange mohawks.
I am not sure where Peacock is touching, use your imagination
Reeeeeachy Squirrel. I think he has a sister, who is flighty and forgetful but also clever and very stubborn.
Squirrel likes to munch on snacks a lot, to the point of stashing food in places so that he has it later. Peacock takes to keeping bowls of nuts out for him.
