chapter 36

3 days prior to current events, Shiharu got a call from Rio asking her if she would like to go to the summer festival. She wanted them both to wear kimonos and eat takoyaki. That was a problem since Shiharu didn't have a kimono of her own, so Rio offered to let her borrow one of her's.

Shiharu feels like she's falling even more into debt for all that she's borrowing. She graciously thanks Rio. Rio doesn't have a problem since she think she won't be wearing it again.

Shiharu looks around at all the fun surroundings of the festival. She wishes Matsunaga and the twins could be there as well. She wants to buy the twins some snacks.

A dark-haired boy calls one of the girls Shiharu and Rio are with named "Koyama-san". It's one of the male students from her junior high school. She sees that the boy, "Fujimura-kun", isn't alone. Two other boys  from the same  school are with him. He introduces them both to Shiharu and Rio. To Shiharu's surprise, one of the other boys is Nao! He is just as equally surprised to see her, as well.

Koyama-san looks at their new situation: there are 3 guys and 3 girls. One of the boys stares at Shiharu and blushes. He asks them if there's anything they're doing after the festival, which they don't. He says the 3 boys were talking about doing a "test of courage" after the festival, but asks if the girls would like to do it as well. Nao twitches and glares/glances right in Shiharu's direction. He gets right up in the guy's face and asks what he's planning all of a sudden on his own. The answer is obvious: if the girls get scared, they'll cling to the big manly boys.

Nao knows immediatly that this boy is doing this only to get close to Shiharu. He declares that tests of courage are only for guys, and girls have nothing to do with any of it. But the boy just comes to the conclusion that Nao will go alone. (That has nothing to do with it, you idiot!!!!!) Nao yanks Shiharu's arm and tells them they're going home. Rio grabs her back, saying he can't just decide everything for Shiharu. Nao gives her a nasty glare, which scares Rio and gives her the chills. But Rio can understand quite easily what's going on. Shiharu is a little naive.

Shiharu decides to go along with the test of courage. They decide pairs with rock-paper-scissors. In the end, Rio is paired with the boy who originally wanted to be with Shiharu, Shiharu ends up with the dark-haired Fujimura-kun, and Koyama-san is paired up with Nao. They set up the pathway of the test and set up the order of what pairs will go first. The first pair will go, and then the next pairs will start 10 minutes apart.

They break up, and the first pairing to be shown is Rio's pair. She's a little nervous about the dark, but the boy tells her that she can depend on him. He then asks if she has a boyfriend and puts his hand on her shoulder. She's starting to think this guy is a little pushy. She answers that she doesn't have a boyfriend, but she'd definitely love to do this sort of thing with Takeru. She imagines her clinging to him out of fear and him just laughing.

10 minutes later, Shiharu's pair starts. Nao takes Fujimura-kun aside and warns him to do NOTHING to her. He assures he won't. He's not a pervert like the last guy^^. While on the path, Shiharu starts to feel rather frightened. She tries to take her mind off it by thinking of the twins calling out to her. She calms down and chuckles to herself. She asks Fujimura-kun how Nao is at school. Surprisingly, even though he's a grouch, he's rather popular at school.

Fujimura-kun points out a light that Rio's pair must be holding up. Shiharu tries to see the lights, imagining the twins waving around flashlights. She looks surprised, saying she can't see the lights at all. Fujimura-kun also says he's been hearing the voices of other children, thinking perhaps there are others doing tests of courage. The image of the twins saying they're playing again comes to Shiharu's mind. Shiharu is starting to freak out. She can't hear the voice that he's hearing, either. This starts to scare him. He suspects she's playing tricks on him, but she swears she can't see the lights he's seeing or hear the voices he's hearing. Shiharu is truly freaked out now. She thinks something is definitely wrong with her! Fujimura-kun mentions the sound of the fireworks, and the terrified Shiharu tells him to stop, snapping a twig behind her. She screams bloody murder^^.

The others hear her scream and rush right over. Nao sees Shiharu tearing up, which causes all Hell to break loose on poor Fujimura-kun (he didn't do anything~). Shiharu explains that she became startled and tripped. Nao wonders what spooked her so badly.

Rio's pair arrives and asks Shiharu is she's alright. Shiharu tries to get up, but her ankle was injured amongst all the disarray. Nao offers to giver her a piggyback ride. Everyone is speechless and surprised at this bold move of his. Shiharu refuses at first, but he tells her to just get on. They're going home together right this instant.

The mention of "going home together" shocks the others even more! Shiharu explains that she and Nao live in the same orphanage, which makes tons more sense to them. Rio observes them both as Shiharu gets on his back. She realizes that they truly are close. Nao is very protective of her. Though she thinks Shiharu hasn't a clue as to how special she is to him.

Shiharu apologizes for ruining the fun Nao was having (not), but he doesn't mind. She says she'll pay him back, but he says she doesn't need to. At the same time, they both become conscientious of how close their bodies are, making them both blush out of awkwardness.

Suddenly out of the blue, Shiharu yells in utter surprise about the clothing Rio lent her. She totally forgot to ask how she wanted it cleaned! Nao gets angry and tells her it doesn't matter. She insists it does matter, but he tells her to be quiet.

Meanwhile, Matsunaga is in the middle of a dream where he's giving a piggyback. The twins are sleeping on his back, making it hard for him to breath, since he's lying face down.

chapter 20

4-page preview

Summer vacation has begun! For the 2nd-year's summer activity, they have come to the beach. Reiji (Cinderella), Megumi, and Mashiro (Snow White) glace in Subaru's direction, who has just arrived with Komeko and two other classmates in their swimsuits. The two classmates are hiding behind Subaru because they're embarrassed to be seen so exposed in front of the boys, but Mashiro tells them they're all cute, which gives them a bit more confidence. Reiji holds up a wooden sword, declaring that he is the most exposed, therefore he WINS. (He's a moron^^.)

Komeko stops their conversation about exposures and says she's come to swim. The other girls agree and leave. Other female students are still in awe that "The Princes" and Subaru have come to the beach. But they don't want to get too close... Subaru can see why. First we have Reiji who is holding up his wooden sword for watermelon splitting as if he'll kill anyone who approaches, and Megumi looks like he'll do something evil to anyone who approaches, even though he's just burning up in the hot sun.

One of the girls asks Reiji about watermelon splitting, and he declares that he alone will be the one to smash the watermelons! They want to smash watermelons too, but no one dares to go against this guy.

Subaru asks Megumi if he's going to swim. He thinks that's too much work in this hear, so he's not. Mashiro isn't good with the heat either, so he isn't going either. Subaru brought him some apples to eat while he's trying to battle the heat. With his usual apologetic look, Mashiro thanks her. She looks away in embarrassment.

He asks her why she isn't looking at him. He asks if she's angry at him. She explains, blushing, that somehow he looks like a girl with his pale skin. It'd be a problem if she couldn't stop looking in certain places^^. Mashiro tells her it's okay to look, to which she denies. He insists it's alright, but IN EXCHANGE, he suggests they continue what they were about to do in the nurse's room a while back^^. Subaru is confused, saying she really won't look! Megumi grabs Mashiro's shoulder, asking if he forgot he was there, veins popping up on his cheek. Mashiro decides to back off since he's making Megumi jealous, which Megumi completely denies being.

Motochika (Thumbelina) suddenly pops up, commenting on how good Subaru looks even in a swimsuit . Yumeji (Sleeping Beauty), IN A SPEEDO, comments exactly the same thing. Motochika asks Subaru is she'll remove the top part of her clothes. (All the boys praise him for asking this^^.) Subaru's swimsuit consists of shorts and a full tank-top sort of top, so she explains.

Hayato (Mermaid princess) pops up as well with folded arms, bluntly saying that she doesn't have to strip! Especially since Mashiro will more than likely rape her. He lectures Subaru, saying all men are wolves.

(Then we have a flashback of how Yumeji, Hayato, and Motochika were able to come to the 2nd-year's beach trip. They came up with the excuse that they'd be going there anyway, so they might as well join in. For those who don't know, Motochika is still in middle school, and the other two are 3rd-years.)

Yumeji declares that he shall protect Subaru from the wolves! He'll beat up anyone who dares look at her in her swimsuit^^. Subaru highly doubts these boys will do anything to her, though.

Yoshino, the girl who likes to take pics of "The Princes", is spotted talking to herself about how stupid Hayato is being for defending Subaru (she likes Hayato). Subaru is happy that she was allowed to come, too. She compliments her swimsuit. Yumeji and Motochika also compliment her. Subaru turns to Hayato and asks for him to agree. He grins and says it's his most favorite color of swimsuit. Yoshino blushes like crazy and insults him for having bad taste. After a pic request gone wrong, Yoshino runs away, ruining the fun Subaru wanted to include her in. She uses her last moment there to insult Yumeji's speedo^^.

Motochika tells Subaru he got new swim trunks and asks her if she thinks they look good on him. She says he looks good in them, and he purposely hugs her in front of everybody. Yumeji and Mashiro make death glares in his direction~. They know he's making a cute face, but underneath that innocent face is a total pervert. Yumeji pulls him by the ear and challenges him. Motochika makes this sinister look and smiles, asking what he'll challenge him in. The last time he challenged him, he totally lost. Yumeji thinks he has a chance this time they'll be swimming. "How's that loser?" "Just fine." They can sense lightning in the air...^^

This challenge event's theme will be "test of courage". (huh...didn't I just get done reading another series about this?). They're about to decide who will be paired with Subaru when the school principal appears out of nowhere and declares they'll decide with drawing numbers. Yumeji and Motochika dash way instantly, since they're not even supposed to be there and think they might get in trouble. They continue talking about planning out their challenge, though.

Subaru is surprised that the principal is there too. They greet each other. Then he looks down at her chest and drags her away for juuuust a moment. When they're alone, he demands to know why she's wearing something so unattractive. She's so attractive, yet she wastes it! She won't be able to get in with any of the boys with such a thing! Subaru blushes at there mere mention of that. He thinks that's a little weird for her, but she admits it's because she took it as a compliment.

Anyway, the principal tells her not to participate in the boys' challenge. She goes gloomy and does as he says. As she walk away to do so, the principal glances in Megumi and Hayato's direction. They're both glaring at him. The principal thinks in mind that all he can do is watch everything play out for Subaru. In the end, it will be "that child's" decision. He tips his hat to Megumi and Hayato, telling them they ought to go play with their friends.

Mashiro begins to wonder if the principal is the reincarnation of the witch, which makes Megumi twitch. Aside from that, Hayato takes the principal's advice and decides to go swim. He invites Megumi and Mashiro to come along and swim 2-3 KM with him. Nope, that's something only Hayato can do^^.

Hayato remembers the words of the principal to him: "You have something special to protect, right? Perhaps you know about me, too?" Hayato is frustrated.

Girls are gathered around Subaru. They're excited that she's there along with them. One of the girls starts sinking in the water and Subaru saves her, looking as masculine and handsome as ever. Thus, all the girls start to "pretend" to drown^^.

On a whim, Subaru decides she's going to purge herself of worldly thoughts. She begins swimming wildly away from the scene, confusing the girls and everyone else she happens to pass in her wild fury. They see she's going further and further out, which worries Hayato.

Meanwhile, she's worrying about the test of courage the boys are planning out. She's not too good with ghosts. She thinks that if she's paired with Reiji, she'll have the best chance of getting through it. Once she settles these worries, she decides to head back. Her foot starts to cramp up, making it nearly impossible for her to continue swimming. She freaks out and begins to flail in the water, causing her to sink.

A boy brings her to the surface and desperately asks if she's alright. She looks up to see who it is that has rescued her, and it's Hayato, looking scared to death. She tells him the deal with her foot, and he offers to help it relax. He spots a collection of boulders.

Once they're ashore, her foot has stopped hurting. Now she's depressed that she almost drowned. Hayato comforts her with saying that even professionals can drown if something like that happens. She smiles and thanks him for saving her.

She suspects that this is the 2nd time he has helped her. In the story of the "mermaid princess", she saved the prince from drowning. She asks if that is indeed what happened. He confirms it. If he remembers correctly, this is when the mermaid princess took one glance at the prince and........ He glances at Subaru and his heart throbs.

Now that Subaru's foot is better, she suggests they head back to where everyone else is. Hayato recalls Yumeji talking about how he found Mashiro on top of Subaru in the nurses office. When the mermaid princess first looked at the prince, she fell in love, even though he was her opponent. He wonders how he can convey such feelings to her. He holds her from behind, dreading that it's impossible for him.

chapter 31

The teacher takes a look at Hime and Senri's so-called friendly photo together. In the photo, they're both holding up victory signs, yet they're facing away from each other pouting. She points the photo at them, fuming with anger, telling them they have to do it over again. Otherwise, she won't give them any points.

The two of them walk lifeless (XD) down the hall. At this rate, Hime will have to take supplementary classes. Senri says it doesn't have to be that way. He has an idea...

The next day, Hime and Tsukino come across Mitchi looking like the happiest boy alive. The reason is because the next class is the dance class, and his partner is just the cutest thing in the whole world~! Her name is Saeki-san, and she tells him he dances well and acts flirty with him. Tsukino suspects that this girl likes him, to which he is startled to hear. Tsukino turns Evil and threatens to do something unpleasent to him if Saeki confesses to him in the future and he brushes her off as being "someone with a gross misunderstanding". Mitchi fears for his life^^.

Hime asks Tsukino how things are going with her dance partner, Nishina-kun. He's a nice guy, always smiling and spacing out. She then asks about Shou's partner, Takano-san. She absolutely hates boys, but by using the lip syncing technique, they both came to an agreement: "We won't touch each other's bodies, but we'll find a way at the social dance." It shows both of them looking away from each other, sweating and looking hostile...^^

Hime observes the class around her. Everyone is enjoying the chance for new bonding time with other classmates. Even though it's a big part of their grade, it seems more like a fun thing rather than a stressful thing. Well, all except for her and Senri. Everything would have been going more smoothly if he hadn't suddenly glomped her, tossed her, and called her "ugly". Then she remembers Senri saying he'd do something about it and wonders what he could be up to.

Tsukino spots Senri behind Hime. She's about to mention it, but Senri speaks up first, scarying Hime. With a glare, he tells her to come with him. She doesn't want to. HE LOOKS SCARY~~

When they're in a separate room, he gets to the point. He doesn't like her. (This makes her angry since he's saying it point blank.) He continues that lately the situation with her has become even more dire (referring to the kitty-cat incident), thus his hate for her has doubled. Hime, boiling with rage, asks if he would rather switch with another person, but he would have done that already if he could, but he can't.

They only have 1 week before the actual test. If they don't do well on it, BOTH of them will have to take summer classes, so that is why he has devised a plan. He holds up a script and explains that until the test date arrives, they will both be acting out the script as it is written. He puts on his best domineering face and says if they become their characters, then they'll forget all about their dislike for one another. Hime has this blank look on her face and has been assured that this guy is a moron afterall^^. Though this kinda sounds fun.

Hime looks through the types of acts they can play out and Type C catches her eye instantly. It's a case in which both of them are childhood friends, but the boy is a dropout, while the girl is a mature-minded girl who is capable of doing anything. Her eyes sparkle at the very thought of Senri Kudou being a dropout, lazy slacker! Senri agrees to do it, but he can't figure out why she looks so dang happy.

At their next rehearsal, Hime sees a laid-back Senri texting away on his cellphone, looking like he hasn't a care in the world. Hime is at a loss of what to do. She didn't expect him to already be in his role. She hesitates as she tells "Senri Kudou" it's time to start practicing. Senri looks up from his cellphone and smiles tenderly at her, blushing a bit and calling her by her first name. He says he was getting worried about her. She hesitates again, saying it's time to start. Senri asks her why she seems so distant. He closes in and says she always calls him "Senri". Her whole face turns red, which Senri notices and frustrates him.

He abruptly says, "CUT", with this menacing, threatening expression. He closes in closer and closer with this exact look, telling her to take this seriously. At this rate, they won't be able to practice at all. He asks her if this is how she would act around a guy she's known for years and tells her to act properly! Who immediately comes to her mind after this lecture? Sound Director Yajima (chapters 18-29. You can read his lecture to Shiro in ch.19). Scary.

During rehearsal, Hime steps on Senri's foot and starts to apologize when Senri says "CUT" again, with that evil menacing expression again. She's supposed to be a "capable girl", so she ought to be able to do this dance with no problems! Hime now wishes she had chosen to be the dropout instead^^. She reminds him that there are things that even a capabale girl like her isn't good at. This calms him down as he has to agree with that. She's realized her problem. It doesn't matter if he becomes the dropout if she can't perform her role. She needs to become the "good girl"!

And with much more time spent on rehearsal that way...they were finally able to take a good picture to show the teacher. She can't wait to see them dance at the real test now.

While still in their roles, Hime expresses her relief that they were able to pass that hurdle. There were many things she wanted to do for the summer, so it was like he helped her get out of being put into summer classes. Senri is astounded that she was at risk of being put into summer classes, which reminds Hime that she is still the "capable girl" and she quickly comes up with the excuse that she's talking about an acquaintance of her's.

Senri smiles and says that an acquaintance of his wants to avoid getting a bad grade as well. Hime then begins talking about "this acquaintance". She says that even though "this acquaintance" takes a considerable amount of breaks from school, he still gets great grades. Even if it's just one class, taking just 1 summer class would be alright, wouldn't it? Senri disagrees wholeheartedly. He states that if he doesn't get good grades in EVERYTHING, he's useless. That's what "his acquaintance" says anyway.

Now Hime is curious to know why Senri feels that way. Why must he get all good grades? She's spacing out as she thinks this through, which Senri points out. Hime steps on his foot again and apologizes, expecting him to go into his CUT-mode, but not this time. He smiles and bluntly puts that she's not good at dancing. Hime doesn't want to see him go all Yajima on her again, so she thinks of something to further her "smart girl" role.

She starts with the history of the Waltz. Long ago this dance was actually banned because it was deemed immoral. People used to dance for recreation in secret as a result. It was a guilty pleasure, so everyone truly enjoyed the Waltz. Senri seems fascinated by it. He agrees that just as those people did, they'll enjoy it as well. He twirls her with his gentle smile. Hime can't help but stare at him. This is one of the only few times they'll have to enjoy themselves. She realizes that when the Waltz ends, their fun will end as well. She tugs at his shirt, making Senri concerned again. She makes a sad face. She doesn't want this to end...

The day of the test arrives. The teacher is looking forward to seeing all the different Waltz dances that the students will bring forth. Hime is nervous about it. The day came fast! Senri leans in and hands her a bag. He tells her to put on whatever's inside on when their turn arrives. She looks in to see...

Later on, a pair has just finished their dance and the teacher calls out the next pair, Hime and Senri. Everyone is shocked to see Hime walk in wearing a fluttering garment that even Hime is embarrassed to be seen in. Everyone looks like they're about to burst out in laughter. Senri tells her that this is something he made for her yesterday. She'll understand what he was aiming for once they start.

Thus they begin, and the scraggly cloth now flutters and encircles the both of them as they dance and twirl, displaying a beautiful image. Once again, Senri has shown how amazing he is. At this rate, they'll both get a good grade!

Hime trips over herself as they dance. Luckily Senri is quick enough to catch her. However, at that instant, Senri's Kitty-Hime vision has kicked up again (Ears only he can see^^) . His mask has been shattered. CAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He tightly grabs her around the chest, stopping their dance right then and there. As expected, everyone, especially Hime, is shocked by what he has just done.

"Senri Kudou, what the hell are you doing???!!!"

chapter 54

Jirou snaps out of his atonishment with the sakura blossoms when gives Nanami a menacing glare. He demands to know who she is, telling her that women are prohibited from their village and asks who let her in.

Nanami knows she's in trouble. Jirou looks really angry. She mumbles a little apology and tries to excuse herself from that situation, but he yanks her arm from behind and asks if it was she who made the blossoms bloom. He grips her even tighter and asks what she came to that place to do. He wants to know her name. He'll have no choice but to rip her arm off if she doesn't answer.

Another tengu calls out to him, calling him "Jirou-sama", making Nanami realize exactly what kind of trouble she's gotten herself into. This is the man who has beaten Botanmaru in the past! Mamoru (Nanami's monkey) bites Jirou's arm, allowing Nanami to escape. Jirou is left looking a little frustrated, but not completely. He stares at the hand he used to touch her arm and blushes a bit. He never knew the arm of a woman could be so slender.

Nanami is quite disturbed by what kind of tengu Jirou is. She remembers Botanmaru mentioning that someone named "Jirou-sama" was the most likely successor of 4th Lord of the mountain. If that's indeed the case, they're all in trouble!

Nanami trips from being in a frantic sprint. She looks up to see Tomoe standing in front of her, asking what was taking her so long. She instantly leaps up and hugs him desperately. Tomoe spots the large bruise on Nanami's wrist and worries about what's happened to her. Nanami is more aware than before that she's lucky to have gotten away.

At Suirou's house, Suirou has prepared dinner for them all. At the table, he's surprised that Nanami not only met Jirou, but that she was also able to get away without too many injuries. He's looking completely away from her while saying this. Nanami is annoyed.

Nanami recalls that she was told this mountain was prohibited to women. She had no idea that she would be in so much danger by coming to this mountain. Suirou continues speaking of his relief that she's safe while looking away from her. Nanami is annoyed.

Tomoe states his dislike for this Jirou character. He seems like quite the violent person. Suirou has to agree that he's been an awkward man ever since long ago.

But changing the subject, Suirou says, still completely faced away from Nanami, that he's prepared a different toilet that isn't too far away^^. Nanami has had it. She goes straight to him and turns him towards her. She asks why he won't look at her at all and demands for him to tell her what his problem is!

Nanami is startled to see Suirou looking at her, blushing. He turns away again and apologizes. He says he's not allowed to look at women or he'll be cursed by their appearance. ESPECIALLY A BEAUTIFUL GIRL LIKE HERSELf... Though when he says that, it only irritates her.

Kurama interrupts them, asking if he can specifically talk about the problems on the mountain. He brings up the health of his father. He places the medicine Nanami was able to make. This medicine will be able to heal his father. He wants to give this to his father so he can become better and the mountain can return to normal. Suirou looks at the bottle of medicine and notes that it is indeed an effective medicine. However, he won't be able to even give it to him. This news confuses Kurama.

Suirou explains that Kurama's father is being held in isolation in the tengu's fortress, which is completely guarded, thanks to Jirou. Nobody, not even him, not even Kurama, is allowed to come in contact with him. If anyone attempts to do so , Jirou will crush them to bits. Nanami doesn't doubt that.

In any case, they shouldn't think about it too much. Suirou offers apple slices to Kurama^^. Kurama is angry with all this! He asks Suirou is he's alright with things staying as they are at the moment. He'll talk to Jirou if he has to. He'll find a way to meet his father. Suirou insists that he doesn't, that it's something he can't do. Kurama becomes even more insistant that he does this. He's not a child anymore. He came to this place believing he could do something about all it. Suirou looks him straight in the eye and bluntly states, "No, you're still no good."

Before Kurama can ask why he's "no good", a bald man barges into the house, calling out "Shinjurou's" name. Botanmaru is trying to hold him back, to no avail. The man continues yelling and crying, expressing his utmost gratitude that Shinjurou has returned to the mountain. He can hardly believe his very eyes. Kurama is confused. He asks this man who he is. The man cries even more and screams, "IT'S ME!!" (He was his instructor as a child.)

Botanmaru tries to get the rest of the men coming to get out of Kurama's space, but they push him aside. The two other older men barge in and instantly assume that Kurama has returned to take his place as the next Lord of the mountain. Kurama is taken aback by their assumptions and wants to know who told them that. He only came to heal his father. The men say that his father is beyond help at this point. They become serious. They don't want Jirou to become their next leader. For everyone's sake, Kurama can't say he doesn't want to do this.

Kurama doesn't want to! He's about to say aloud that he won't become the 4th, but he looks down at Botanmaru's admiration of him and stops. He doesn't want to say something like that in front of this boy who looks up to him and wants him to become the 4th, too.

Suirou insists that they leave. There are many things he wants to talk about still. Thus they take their leave, Botanmaru seeing them off. Suirou tells Kurama not to worry about all this. Kurama grabs his jacket and heads for the door. He apologizes to Suirou. He needs to cool his head a little.

Nanami asks if Kurama will be alright since he doesn't want to become the 4th. Suirou says it's impossible for him anyway. He's lived in the human world for far too long. He has a favor to ask of Nanami. He wants them all to leave the mountain the following day, before any trouble starts.

Nanami gives him a serious look. It's already too late to be asking such a thing of them. They came all become Kurama himself was coming. They aren't going anywhere until Kurama says so. Suirou smiles and recalls the first time he opened to door to see Kurama holding back Nanami. He realized at that moment that the child he knew was no more. He suspects that Kurama's appearance means more to the human world than it does on the mountain. He doesn't want him to become incharge of the mountain.

He asks Nanami to confirm that she is one of "Shinjurou's" allies. He tells her that when he was still on the mountain long ago, he was alone. He had much more responsibilities placed on him than Suirou could imagine. Even though he was always beside him, that was one aspect that he couldn't help Shinjurou get through. He always thought that he could at least help take a bit of the load off his shoulders by always watching over him. This is why he is so adement about getting Shinjurou as far away from the mountain, and the positon of the 4th Lord, as possible.

Kurama is on the edge of a cliff looking down at his father's fortress. He looks worried, yet determined. Tomoe walks up behind him and lists the number of risks involved with what Kurama is most likely thinking of doing. There's no way he can storm that place alone. Kurama sweats and say he knows that quite well. Not only do they have guards to worry about. There's also a barrier they have to break to even get close.

Kurama asks if Suirou told them they have to go home. He admits he wasn't prepared to do any of this. He'd have to agree with what Suirou says about him being no good as he is. Not cool at all^^. Tomoe grins and asks Kurama the big question: What does he want to do?

Kurama hears footsteps coming closer and closer. Nanami trips and pushes Kurama. She's gasping for air, still looking exicted, and asks Kurama what they're going to do next. Kurama's eyes go wide realizing that they're trying to support him. He blushes and asks for them to lend him their strength with helping his father.

Namami asks him to say that again, since the wind was too strong and she couldn't hear him. Kurama snaps back saying he said absolutely nothing^^. Nanami turns to Tomoe and asks him what Kurama said. Tomoe reveals what he said, and Nanami makes fun of Kurama for being too simple^^.

next chapter comes out in the Jan.6th issue

Love x Text

chapter 2

The Heart class is in the middle of a lesson. They're reading a segment in their text book (shojo manga) about a girl giving her boyfriend some goodies she made. The poor guy ends up breaking in hives. It's a scary sight indeed, as everyone in the class screams from seeing it!

The teacher asks what the problem here is. Is it that the treats don't appeal to the boy? No. It's because she doesn't know what her boyfriend is weak against. One of the boys raises his hand and says that as long as it's the girl he loves, then he'd be happy to endure anything. The teacher gets frustrated with him and tells him that two people who love each other ought to know what each one likes. Therefore, she is giving them search sheets to ask people they like, romantically or not, what their different preferances are.

Komachi decides to ask her childhood friend, Nozomi. This'll be the perfect chance to meet up with her first-love angel~~! She finds him drinking juice and reading a kendo magazine. They do a bit of small talk about Komachi's father (Nozomi's kendo teacher as a kid), etc... While observing him during the conversation, she think he's as cute as he ever was.

Onto the next item on her list, she asks him if he has someone he likes. He crushes his juice box from the abrupt question. He asks her if what he did to her before (hugging her) wasn't proof enough of who he likes. Komachi is confused. Yep, she's an idiot.

At a school assembly, Komachi wonders why Nozomi is angry with her. She turns to Nodacchi (boy in her class, the one who was showing her around school in the beginning) and asks him if he thinks she's stupid.

Nikaidou, the student body president, gathers everyone's attention and starts listing off what each class will be doing for the next while. Meanwhile, Komachi is wondering how a guy like this got to be the student body president. Oh well, she doesn't care about him!

Her biggest problem right now is figuring out what Nozomi's problem is. She glaces at Nozomi further away. He glances back at her and chuckes, smiling. She's relieved that he's forgiven her.  She just wants to be with Nozomi like they were in the past. She'll properly apologize for whatever she may have done after school.

Back to Nikaidou, he comes to the Heart class and announces that it's time to wash the Diamond class dorms. They'll be doing this after school. Everyone, even Komachi agrees. But then she has to think about what he just said and is like, "WHAT?!"

Miki-sensei likens this experience to the love story of Cinderella, like living a fairytale. Komachi thinks she's nuts^^. She wants to know why it's only their class that is cleaning the Diamond class building. It's because they're the only class that is able to do it anytime. All the others have things to do after school. She thinks this is too cruel^^.

While she's scrubbing the floors, some of the girls talk about how cool Nikaidou is, which is hard for her to believe! They ask her what there's not to like about him. His father is a big-name politician, and his mother is a top-grade lawyer. He's the biggest prodigy in the whole school. He's top of the Elite Celebrity class. Still, she figures he shouldn't be higher than, say, the son of the school director. Nikaidou appears right behind her with his servent and states that he isn't the school director's son. HE'S HIS GRANDSON.

Everyone is pleased to welcome Nikaidou back and they all stand to the side to let him through. All except Komachi, who is still scrubbing the floor. They both star at each other, saying nothing. Then he kicks over her bucket of water as he passes^^.  For a minute, Komachi just sits there, and then she rips off her cleaning clothes and marches straight to where Nikaidou is. He didn't even apoloize for knocking over the bucket! It's all because of him that she missed the chance to apologize to Nozomi. She doesn't care if he's the son of a politician or the grandson of the school director. She's gonna beat that rotton boy into shape!

She barges in on a scene between Nikaidou and the cook. The cook is begging Nikaidou for a 2nd chance, but to no avail. Nikaidou orders his servent to drag the cook away. Komachi turns away from them and back to Nikaidou. She sees the kind of room this is. It's like a hotel! Luxurious no doubt. It's the student body office.

Komachi asks why he threw out the cook from before. It's because the food was a waste. She takes a look at the food, and it's a high-class meal!  How could it be a waste?! It's simple. He put peppers in it.

This confirms it. Nikaidou is a spoiled little kid. He continues, saying that he's only taking away what is unnecessary and useless. That chef was useless. The Heart classes' useless lessons are also unnecessary. Giving them the task of cleaning will make them useful, though. Which is why they're given this task every month.

Komachi slaps his desk and tells him that the Love department's lessons aren't useless. At least...she thinks so^^.  Nikaidou gives her a challenge. Within one week, she must be able to get a boyfriend. If she can do that then he'll acknowledge the Heart class. But if she can't then she'll become the Diamond class' errand-girl. The other students, who have overheard everything, tell him that it's impossible for her to do that. Komachi fights back, saying she'll be able to do it within one week. Anything to make him grovel!

It isn't until later that night that she fully grasps what she's just gotten herself into. She and her roommate, Rio-chan, think of ideas. Maybe she could pretend to have a boyfriend. Rio-chan thinks Nodacchi may be able to do it. But that would be cheating, and Komachi doesn't want to beat him like that. She wants to be with the person she really loves.

At that moment, Nozomi calls her cellphone. He tells her that he has something to talk about. So of course she goes out to meet him after curfew^^.

Meanwhile, Nikaidou is having his hair dried by his servent, talking to himself again about Komachi (like he did in ch.1^^). That was the first time anyone talked to him like that. She's a strange one indeed. NOW HE'S WORRIED^^. (Nikaidou is weird.)

Nozomi apologizes for calling her out so suddenly. She's spazzing over how cute he looks in normal clothing^^. She's about to blurt out the challenge she accepted, but then she thinks about how he would react if she asked him to her her boyfriend. The Angel Nozomi would probably make a gross face, as if he absolutely didn't want to. So it's decided that she won't ask him this way!

She thinks of other methods of expressing this. She recalls her teacher's words of people being attracts to others who like the same things. She puts together Nozomi, her, and kendo dueling, and thinks that will be he best option. She's about to ask him to duel her when a guard hears them talking and points a flashlight in their direction. Nozomi pins her to the ground to hide, but then they both realize what position they're in^^. Nozomi is about to say something to her when she interrupts and asks for a duel. She wants to duel just like they did in the old days. He makes a rare frustrated look and agrees.

The next day, she's getting ready to duel him. It's been 10 years since they last dueled, so she's excited. Nodacchi is nervous about all this.

Other students flock around to see what the All-Popular Nozomi is doing. Even Nikaidou and his servent happen to pass by when Nikaidou "senses" Komachi within the perimeter^^. (Again, Nikaidou is weird.)

The duel begins, bringing back memories of when they dueled as kids. One of the Spade teacher is rather surprised at how skilled Komachi is. He wonders why she isn't in their class instead!

Komachi reminescenes on the past. She asks Nozomi if he doesn't feel the same. It's just like long ago... Nozomi kinda makes an angry, sad look at her, saying he's not the Nozomi he was 10 years ago. He puts much more force in his blow, which causes her to tumble backwards. She's in utter shock. She doesn't recall Nozomi being that much stronger than her. No, he isn't the same. He's become so strong...

Nozomi, now worried, asks her if she can stand up. She tries to, but her ankle is hurt. Nozomi is about to help her when suddenly Nikaidou hold him back and picks her up himself! Needless to say, everyone there is speechless^^. They just stare as Nikaidou takes her away over his shoulder.

Komachi demands to know where they're going. To the nurse's office. She asks why he's doing this. He doesn't know. Wait, HE DOESN'T KNOW?!

next chapter will be in the Dec.20th issue

starting series of next issue: Hoshi wa Utau

At the beginning of this month, Hana to Yume started a blog! They recently updated it about the calender coming out, talking about it's design this year. Here. Gr-ness. I can't wait to get my copy.

This issue is featuring an ALL*STAR present as well. New illustrated cards of all the series. Too bad I don't have a chance in Hell getting them. I'll scan the pages that show them, though.

Good news for me~! Hajimari no Ninna has started a 4-koma series! I loved the first installment. Ninna's soul is still stuck in the trends of the past, so when a couple of her classmates are spazzing over getting a cellphone, Ninna assiciates that with getting a POCKET BELL (a pager = very hot in the early 90's). They're like, "Pocket? What's what?" Then when her sister takes her ice cream, she screams "MK5"!!! (A 90's term meaning "I'm gonna blow my top in 5 seconds!" It was used as a challenge.) Then she uses a 90's slang term that her past-life boyfriend, now 25, is stunned by, her being just 11.
