Well, now that most have had a chance to either ruffle or settle their metaphorical feathers, a return to the traditional carnage and mayhem of our little coop is in order, yeah? A riot, perhaps. I don't think we've had a proper one while I've been here. Murder gets so blase after a certain point. Murder in the most familiar sense in any case. Show ( Read more... )

[...Yeah, Bruce is. Facepalming right now. HE HAS NO WORDS.]

Miss Talbot, uh. Asking for riots to happen is just. That's.

That's...? What? Are you discouraging potentially creative opportunities for aerobic exercise?

If they really wanted exercise that badly they could go to, I don't know. The gym? Which is, you know. A room specifically built for exercising? It's kind of the point of the whole thing there.

Instead of rioting. Which is bad.

Nonsense. It's a trust-building exercise. One trusts everyone else to do as much damage to everything in their immediate vicinity as possible.

Hmm. I will admit to temporary affront. It's not a bad start. Perhaps I'll make your pen explode over your fingers.

Who might I be seeking vengeance upon, anyway?

A suitable revenge.

...Who's going to be enacting this revenge?

The at-one-point-infamous Bela Talbot.

Here's to resilience. And to being able to run that much faster than everyone else.

Hey, this ain't no little thing. I used to make a living with my hands. Bracin' myself for the first real death toll, though, it'll probably be a doozy.

And how'd you fare out in that melee, Bells?

[Slightly more somber.] Ah. I'm sorry to hear it.

Over all? Not badly. A few minor scrapes and bruises--and I lost a rather nice pair of shoes, more's the pity. Another one of the hapless shuffled into my group wasn't so lucky.

I'm not hiding. It isn't my fault they can't even coordinate an escort to Zero.

Even so. An act of apparent good faith on your part might ease whatever damage has been done. Long-term, Dr. Lewis. Whatever the little weasel did and however deserved the injury, you can't afford to be seen as an absolute villain so early in the game.

All recent events have proven is that I will be seen as a villain regardless of what I do. I've done nothing but good works, as far as the wardens know, and they treat me as guilty until proven innocent. Judas Iscariot helps the Master take over a planet and subjugate it for years, and they give him a promotion. They make excuses for him. "Oh, he didn't know. He had good intentions. He feels bad." And they claim they would treat the same accusations against him the same as they treated the ones against me.

The hypocrisy of the wardens, the absolutely pathetic scrounging for their approval, they all sicken me.

I know, Dr. Lewis. The memories I have of that port have me under the thumb of that worm and the government behind him for the full stretch of their occupation. I have no sympathy for him or anyone who supports him. We will make them pay, for their hypocrisy and their pandering, all of them. But we won't do it by letting the injustice rule our emotions.

I almost lost myself to this place, doing that. Don't spoil all you've worked for. You're better than that--than all of them. Rule yourself and prove it.
