6 - Contrary to popular belief...

...there really is room for a second person in a Viper cockpit. Enough room, that is, if the other person isn't any older than three or four.

I had it easier than your father did, thankfully.

When I took him and your uncle Zak up for their first times, it was much easier to keep it from your grandmother.

Yeah, it's not like she was sitting in CIC, wondering what the unscheduled launch was all about. Although Dad probably shouldn't have let me answer the wireless.

What were they like, when they were that age? Or my age?

That was a tactical miscalculation, yes.

He chuckles softly.

At three or four, they were typical little boys. Curious, getting into everything, testing boundaries. At eighteen ...

...well. I wasn't really around as much as I should have been, then. I was back in the fleet, spending most of my time in space, and Carolanne and I had divorced. Things were ... strained, for a variety of reasons, particularly with Lee.

At least he's learned from my mistakes.
