Hi dear flist! Hope you are all doing well and enjoying whatever weather you're given. I also hope haven't had your soul slain by last week's GoT episode. I didn't either, but it was a near thing, and if anyone has a rant for me, I will gladly bask in it.

I kind of flunked on completing the last two memes I posted; in my defense I was battling a ( Read more... )

3. Sometimes in drabbles or mood-pieces I really prefer the possibilities of 1st person or the sinisterness of 2nd person, but for longer fics I default to 3rd person because it's the easiest - i don't have to choose every word as carefully as I do in 1st person, nor do I have to worry about my narrator being perceived as unreliable if I don't want them to be. Which I usually don't. Like, if I do write 1st person things, the character will usually be very, very trustworthy. 3rd person is the most unassuming, I guess. I think I always write limited rather than omniscient narrators though. Not sure why! Maybe because omniscient feels kind of untrustworthy again ( ... )

Yeah, I like 3rd person limited too. It's a nice midpoint between "influenced by the character's voice" and "neutral/objective".

Oh, those are good themes.

HAH, I am also currently proud of the tiny HP fic I wrote yesterday (http://somebraveapollo.dreamwidth.org/5557.html?thread=7605#cmt7605), again because I managed to write exactly what I meant to, emotionally.

but what about my slavefic babies fair points all, especially re: nuance and suddeness you can achieve at will. like, this feeling of owning a story on a deeper level than just telling the story, yes?

screw artisty humility \o/

HMM. Well, mostly, the idea of an audience inspires me. I do write some things for myself - sometimes, ideas become much richer and more intricate when you put them on paper - but I don't think I would bother to finish stories, I wouldn't work on them, if I did not think someone will enjoy them. One person is enough for this!

As for where my - hmm, storytelling inspirations? - come from, it is always from some tiny emotional moment (in canon or in reality or in something I'm thinking about) that I want to expand upon.
