You should find that book highly readable, although Hawking is no longer my favorite since he apparently got smarter than God. *cough*

I find it's a nearly laughable reflection on America that we have such a low tolerance of not hearing the sound of our own voices. Huzzah to Pixar for being the exception.

Is it weird I wanted to read it because I figured any scientist that regularly guest-stars on The Simpsons or Futurama can't be that difficult to understand? XD (Well, that's not entirely why, but that IS a reason)

I assumed it was because they're afraid that children might get bored if there are "too many" scenes with no talking? But honestly, it comes off as sounding rushed and/or ad-libbed to me. I think kids are a lot smarter than most people give them credit for.

It would be interesting to know Hawking's reasons for doing such things. A Brief History In Time is old news (ugh -- sounds arrogant -- I mean by SCIENCE standards ya kno), but the writing style is done very well and even...with a sense of humor. After Hawking I'd rec some books on string theory, but there is no need. Perhaps it is the interest you have RIGHT NOW that prompted him to do it.

Actually, funnily enough...I know a teeny-tiny bit about string theory! Because someone talked about it in a comic book I read once!

I read that Arietty had the best US debut of a Ghibli film! Like $8 million, I think.

Haha, that doesn't surprise me, since this is the only Ghibli movie they've had an almost "normal" nation-wide release...most of the time, they release Ghibli movies as "limited engagements" in only major cities or at independent, "art-house" type theaters. Plus they also advertised the HELL out of it! I think with Ponyo, for example, I saw a grand total of 2 commercials for it on TV ever (and one was on the independent film channel, the other was late-night on Adult Swim, so...not quite the same as the 5 commercials I saw in ONE DAY on Disney Channel for Arrietty!)

Still, I'm really happy it's doing well, because the more money it makes, the more inclined Disney will be to release any future Ghibli movies! I mean, maybe eventually they'll even bring over merch like plushies or something! That would be awesome. XD
