Well, yesterday was the first official day of work. (Monday didn't really count, I just came in and watched training videos and did a bunch of paperwork.) I didn't know how long I was going to be working, so imagine my surprise when I ended up having to stay a full shift (til almost 6:30pm!) XD But it ended up being ok. I thought having to manually ( Read more... )

It can be weird how even the most humble or unpleasant experiences turn out to be "grist for the mill" as my mother puts it.

If people don't gossip there, it'll be the first place, especially retail, I've ever heard of who didn't. Mostly I don't like gossip, but in work places it can be the only way to communicate real information (instead of propaganda).

Don't blame you for the exhaustion, hey half of that was nerves, it ain't easy staying fully aware for an entire day.

Well, I've heard stuff like "oh, did you hear the boss is coming on this day?" kind of stuff...but I was talking about the kind of stupid gossip like..."omg I heard so and so in this department is a huge slut and she's banging two dudes from clerical" type of gossip, which I don't much care for. I know it's only been a couple of days, but so far I haven't heard anything of the sort, which is pretty nice, actually. XD

Heh, I think nerves was part of it, really. I've been feeling so anxious about this job. >__>;

Great job! I hope this works out for you. I still can't believe Hobby Lobby does that, though--does it cost that much to switch to UPCs? Crazy. XD But mine are the same way.

I dunno. I heard that in some areas they're testing out using scanners, since most of the items do have UPCs on them, too.

That's ridiculous that you have to manually ring everything up! How do you the know the prices? Does everything have a price tag on it? And trying to remember what's on sale? Err, no thanks. XD I can't imagine why they wouldn't have scanners and UPCs! I mean, I would think they were LOSING customers who didn't want to wait in line while a cashier struggled to remember what department this item came from. I just... wow. I can't even imagine dealing with that, so that's awesome that you were able to get the hang of it right away!

Ah Nano... I did it four times and said NO MORE. XD I'd rather take my time and end up with something I can actually stand to look at when it's finished. XD Good luck to you!!

Haha, yeah, everything has a price on it. Thankfully, we always have sale ads at the registers, so we can just look it up. And (I didn't know this before), some things are ALWAYS on sale. Most people just don't really notice, I guess. XD ( ... )

Oh, okay, as long as everything is priced, I guess it's not as bad as I imagined. How do you figure out which department the stuff comes from? Is that marked on the item as well? Flipping through an ad in the middle of a transaction must be annoying. Unless the ad isn't that big? We don't have a Hobby Lobby around here, so I don't really know. I imagine it's like a Michael's?

Nano is definitely good for a challenge, and I am glad that I participated in it. Really, those novels were the first things I ever completely finished (okay, I didn't finish one of them but shhh). I firmly believe in the idea of writing every single day, but I don't like sitting down and going, "OKAY, today I MUST write 1666 words!". I'm more of a fan of write whatever you can, as long as you write SOMETHING. :D

Some items, it's pretty easy to tell what department they came from (ie if someone brings up a bunch of fake flowers, obviously it's from Floral). But usually if I can't figure it out I just ask someone and they'll be like, "Oh, that's in crafts" or something. Even people who've worked there for a couple of years sometimes forget, since we have SO much stuff, so that makes me feel a little better. XD ( ... )
