Change is constant. She knows that. Oh yes, she's very well-aware. And on the off-chance that someone, somewhere in the ever-annoying powers-that-be-think otherwise? Something else bops along to remind her about change being constant. Nothing ever just... stays ( Read more... )

He didn't sleep well, despite sleeping next to Meredith and in his book that's enough for a good nights anything at all but last night he was plauged with doubts, self doubt mostly and that is something he really just hates with a fiery passion that should only be reserved for his adulterous ex-wife and ex-best friend.

He turns over and opens his eyes, blinking the sleep away because its heavy on his lids, heavy like the burdens that come with adult hood.

It's one of those mornings where he feels like asking for five more minutes and wrapping his arms around Meredith and sinking back into the matress and just pretending the rest of the world didn't exist.

Derek looks over at her and he can't help the tell-tale speed-up-pace of his heart.

"Oh?" He says while stifling a yawn. The world is different today and he's not sure what's going to happen next - it's a little terrifying. "What's the hint?"

"To transform or convert," she reads with a slight shrug of her shoulders. She smirks. It's a new day with worrisome possibilities, but at the moment, she has her McDreamy and a crossword puzzle. The world could certainly and probably will be worse. "You missed out on the fun one. Three letters, something you enjoy very much and want very often."

He chuckles at bit at her and moves to place a soft kiss on her temple and he glances down at the crossword in her hands.

He honestly could care less about the crossword right now even though its something of a ritual. This weight has settled and he hates that its intruding on his morning time with Meredith but there it is, like tumor, in need of surgery and he's not so sure he can be the one to perform it.

"That does sound like a fun one, I think a demonstration might be in order."

"You didn't get enough demonstration last night?" she asks with a mischievous grin. "If we demonstrate anymore, the room-mates are going to protest. Loudly. All day."

Although, she'd be okay with that. Really. Except that last night almost felt guilty, like it had to happen to make up for everything that had gone wrong. It wasn't bright and shiny. Good, of course, but not bright and shiny. And somehow, things were weighing more heavily now in the annoying light of morning.

"Is everything okay?" she asks, as seriously as she can while having a conversation about crosswords, inappropriate hints, and demonstrations. "I just... something doesn't feel okay."
