It's been a busy couple weeks! The 16th was my one year anniversary with Nicole, and it was a quiet affair. We traded cards and flowers and had a great meal out at a swanky restaurant I've always wanted to go to but never could get seats. Every day around here seems to be more fun with her around and there's always something new to joke and laugh about. It's a wonderful partnership that we both look forward to continuing!
Also that week was my and Nicole's birthdays. Yea, I know, we're good at doubling (Tripling?) up on special events. We had a night on the town in downtown Portland with some friends and got as sloshed as possible to make me not care how badly I was dancing. It was a great night and although I was apprehensive about drinking and dancing (Since I'm not good at either), I got over myself and managed to have a fantastic, spirited evening. We'll have to do that again soon.
Nicole's birthday gift to me was tickets to the Rose City Comic Convention here in Portland. I wouldn't have even known about it if it weren't for her giving me tickets. The event itself was much larger than I would have expected, considering Portland is the last place I'd expect to have a very large, serious comic con. I was very surprised to see the entire convention center stuffed with retailers, artists, panelists, customers, costumed fans, and even some awesome celebrities. We went to a few panel shows to watch a few select celebrities chat up their experiences and answer questions. It was wild to be so close to some of the people in television that I've admired over the last decade. For them to come here to Portland and be excited to spend a little time with us was awesome. The only downsides were that we went on the day after all the costume contests and everything on the show floor was a bit too expensive and meaningless to actually buy. Unfortunately, neither Nicole nor I are comic book geeks, but simply seeing all the art and actually talking to a few of the talented artists was amazing. Now that I know we have a healthy annual comic convention, I think I'll start making it a yearly thing.
In more recent news, my brother, Ryan, has been laid off from his job as the web coordinator at a local Portland television station. They'd been dragging their feet on hiring him in as a permanent employee since he got there around a year ago, and it looks like they finally had the balls to make a decision on whether or not to keep him. Unfortunately, it appears the decision did not roll in our favor. Now that he's been cut loose, however, maybe we'll get to see him more often. Him and his live-in fiancé keep to themselves and never agree to hang out with us even when one of them is alone for the day, so it can be at times frustrating. To make matters worse, there's rumor now that they'll take this opportunity to pack up and move to Ohio as the fiancé has family and work there waiting for both of them. This would devastate my sister and possibly my parents, as we don't know when we'd ever see them again...
