must say that murphy's oil soap rocks my hardwood floors. i'm slightly obsessed with it, actually. the smell brings back memories... of my mom forcing me to do housework. but, whatever. it works nicely and it's not all chemical-y.
i don't know why but for some reason the words "oil" and "soap" are opposites in my mind. Don't you usually put soap on something to clean off the oil???
thanks for stopping by, and thanks for the hw floor cleaning vote. :D
I have a strong opinion that Murphy's Oil Soap is exactly what you want to clean your wood with. All of your wood, anywhere. All of it that doesn't still have bark on it, anyway.
I assume this is something I have to do on my hands and knees for maximum effectiveness, no? And I am not just saying that to flirt with you. ;) I mean, cleaning floors is going to be uncomfortable no matter what, but I can't imagine this floor ever getting clean enough without someone getting on its level.
I fully endorse Murphy's. It seriously has made every crappy apartment I've lived in look like the floor had just been refinished. Just sweep well or vacuum beforehand, because as the name indicates, it's oily (which wood needs, don't get me wrong) and if you have lots of dust and cat hair it'll just kinda... stick. Ugh.
I also recommend buying a cheap string mop that you can dry the floor off with, or scooting around on your hands with a big old beach towel. The best kinds of string mops are those you can throw in the dryer. They kinda suck for washing, IMO, but if you have one for drying you can wash the next room while it's in the dryer, get it out, repeat as needed.

We use a sponge-mop dillybop; it works great. You know, the ones with a long handle and a wringer and stuff?
