Phone screen and keyboard are inadequate to do this justice but I still loved this a lot. Itchy, off-feeling Gen, and Jared quietly waiting to hear she's leaving but getting through to each other eventually. That sweetness at ending felt earned by all that went before.

YAY. Earned sweetness is one of my very favorite things. I'm glad I was able to deliver some to you. :)

This is officially the series that gets me to read Supernatural RPF. I can't pass up a Clan of the Cave Bears pun because those books were the porn of my formative years. I'm going to regret this, aren't I?

Ha ha, I hope not! FWIW, the title of the series is the only aspect of it that has anything to do with Jean Auel.

I just re-read and it's so lovely and there were images I'd forgotten and I still love it. I love how Genevieve ends up taking comfort in Jared, even though there's the acknowledgment that he can't really know where she's coming from, because he's never had to (and won't need to) leave his clan. I love the tiny intra-clan differences you've woven through, where this place isn't totally alien but is just enough off for Genevieve to feel isolated and lonely. And of course I love Jared and Genevieve snuggling in their skins and taking comfort in each other, blocking out the cold for a short while. It's the sweetest. <3

Aww. That was adorable. Not going to lie that I teared up a little at Gen's homesickness and how she can't go home because it isn't there anymore. Sort of an analogy for life really.

And I like the whole skins thing. Almost like selkies :)

Aw, tears are high compliments! And yes, I had selkies in mind when I started this verse - it was something a little new and different from all the shapeshifting fic. :)

I'm glad you enjoyed! Thank you so much for commenting.

The first thing that struck me about this was the sheer clarity of the detail which was so rich and vivid that it leapt off the page. And the second thing was how perfect the homesickness felt, it was just so right and natural and real. I don't really have words for the delicate melancholy this fic made me feel. Basically it was gorgeous.
