Spike, Musical Connoisseur

Yanno, there are only so many things a vamp can do during the day, and there's only so much daytime TV to be had. Makes sense Spike might develop a taste for other things on occasion.

So why doesn't Spike ever quote West Side Story then?

Dear kindly Sergeant Krupke
You gotta understand
It's just our bringin' upke
That gets us out of hand
Our mothers all are junkies
Our fathers all are drunks
Golly Moses, naturally we're punks
Gee, Officer Krupke
We're very upset
We never had the love
That every child oughta get
We ain't no delinquents
We're misunderstood
Deep down inside us there is good ...

He calls Giles Mary Poppins (in Tabula Rasa, I think.)

It's not really quoting a musical, but still...

Oh, and her references Les Miserables in an Angel episode,(that one where they're off to the Cotswalds) but he didn't like it much. :)

Also, he remains an Englishman, which is greatly to his credit. (OK, now I'm pushing it.)

Yeah, that makes me doubt his tastes, lol, but the reference is notable because Spike's the one who suggests that they "hit the West End, take in a show."

Ergo, Spike enjoying theater is canon. :)

I think maybe Spike was just fronting with Angel about not liking Les Mis. Truth is it probably made him cry and he didn't want to watch a show where he's sobbing with Angel sitting right next to him. So he's all "take in a show" that'll allow him to still be all manly.

This is my new canon.

I'm imagining Spike trying to take in a show with Angel now, but he could only get tickets for Les Mis. Hijinks ensue: Spike tries not to cry, Angel tries not to cry, and they both fail miserably and end up sobbing on each other's shoulders.

I'd forgotten that! I think that definitely counts, although I suppose he could have read the original books...

Heh. Possibly all his quotations happened off-screen. Perhaps he stood under Buffy's window sometime post-Crush and sang it to her. And then she pelted him with things from her window.
