Important to remember that having your own opinion about something doesn't by its very nature devalue the opinion of another person, even if you share it.
Some people are inclined to take any difference of opinion shared as a judgement on their own value, or adequacy. Those baggages belong with those people, not with the person whose opinion "made" them feel inferior.
I am playing devil's advocate here to make the point that it sometimes isn't really always a black or white call on behavior. There's quite a large range of interpretation and some of it is based on how healthy or secure people are in their own skin.
I have been on both sides of this issue. The only tool I have found useful for myself to prevent unwittingly damaging another person is to ask questions rather than put forth views. Forced to reframe, I'm less likely to offend.
