Norse garb for Spring Crown - part 1

Jan 31, 2009 16:30

Jonns Gunnarson (aka Little John) is planning to fight for me in Crown this spring.  Very exciting!  Since his persona is Norse/Viking, I decided to make new Viking garb for myself as well.  It's still all coming together, but I borrowed spot1111 's inkle loom and made myself a simple woven yellow belt.  I just cut it off the loom, and am quite happy how ( Read more... )

I recommend the following website to help you figure out your apron dress pattern:

And, if you'd like to try some non-running stitch seam treatments, take a look at this:

Thanks for the links! I have already created one apron dress using the first website as a guide, and I'm leaning toward using it again. :)

Those seam treatments are beautiful! Love that loop stitch. I will have to see how ambitious I get with the project.

I'm working on a viking era-looking wool hood lined with linen. Let me know if you'd like more info.

Do you have brooches? Do you want a pair? What about a neckalce of beads? I'm bringing my bead kit to Gulf (hopefully MAPP gas will be plentiful nearby). We can make beads for your outfit.

There will be several good merchants of viking jewelry on site. I can give you my opinion on pieces and artisans if you wish. There are two of my favorites I am hoping will be there.

Did you want to try viking chain knitting? It can be a decorative metal edge to garments or a neckchain.

Are you trying for a specific time period or group of people?
If not, I've done a good Viking Russ wool hat edged in fur that is warm too.

I've been working on a good viking outfit for several years now.

Have fun!

I need brooches. Nice to hear I might be able to get my hands on some at Gulf. I have beads, but it would be awesome to make some as well!

I have also done viking chain knitting before. I didn't think to do some for Crown, but it's a possibility.

I do not have a specific time period or anything like that. I'd love to see your hat. :)

Awesome to hear. I'm excited about fighting in a Crown that's convenient. Although, I told Ivetta she has to stay at my house anyway because I can't possibly get ready for Crown without trying to share a small room and bathroom with her and Vlad. ;-)If you don't find what you want at Gulf you can borrow my brooches, until you find your own. It may also shock you that I have other viking accessories for lend. And Leyla taught me how to make a killer needle case from a grave find so we could work together and both have one.

Thanks for the offer!! I may just take you up on it. :)

I am completely game to work on needle cases together. Will you be at Lupercalia? Or maybe we could get together this coming Satuday morning. I'll be in the Cities in the afternoon for the heraldic consulting gathering at Master Richards.

I flat fell my seams in a contrasting color of linen, and it looks spiffy. Just saying. ;)

Good luck, and I can't wait to hear how it all comes out!
