Linebeck trudged up to Jolene's house in a slightly tired gait. After going to defend his math thesis to get his doctoral few days ago, he was not exactly in the mood to be in any party, even slumber parties thrown by his oldest best friends.

In fact, he had just arrived 3 hours ago from the exhausting conference.Nevertheless, he came to the doorstep and knocked on Jolene's door.

"Hullo Jo. Ye there?"

Joanne squeaked at the knocking, and pushed Jolene in the shoulder, to encourage her getting the door.

So, Jo stuck her tongue out and grumbled her way to the door.

She opened it, glass of booze in hand, "Ya, ya. We're here, but I'd prefer not to be," she grunted, leaving the door open behind her as she turned around and began to stroll, ungracefully back to the game of cards. "Want somethin' ta drink?" she offered.

Joanne waved at him, a bit more quiet than normal.

"PFT. Whatever Jo," Linebeck tossed her insult aside but lit up at the prospect of booze. "I need the drink though. Worst drive back home. UGH...thesis defendin's tough."

Then Linebeck noticed Joanne waving quietly, and raised an eyebrow.

"Hullo Joanne...what's with the quiet face eh?"

Jolene just grunted a chuckle and passed Linebeck a bottle of rum, "Drink up."

From the floor, Joanne just sighed, "Feeling a bit down, but I'm fine!" she chirped.

"Jolene then sighed and sat on her pillow again, "So, who wants to play some cards?" she mumbled, "Because I refuse to play Mancala, that game is shit!" she declared.

Link was.... a little uneasy about this whole situation. But it was like one big get together so it couldn't be that bad right?!

....

Din dammit. He could feel himself curling back into his regularly quiet state as he knocked against the door of Jolene's house.

At hearing the knocking on the door, Jolene now actually wanted to get the door, so she jumped up, and managed to throw the pillow she was sitting on at Linebeck while she did so.

She opened it up and pulled Link in, "Come on Greenie! We're playing cards, now we can play Spades!" she slammed the door shut and then sat back down with the group.

Joanne giggled and greeted, "Hi Link! As you know, we're playing cards!"

"!!!" Linebeck got a face full of pillow just before taking a swig of his rum. Thankfully none of the drink was wasted. "WATCH IT, WOMAN! ...Oh hullo, kid."

Linebeck waved indifferently at Link. The captain was not yet enthused/cheered up to greet him with the usual slap on the back.

Shuffling the deck, he began to deal. "I think we're goin ter play spades..."

He paled a little, remembering past events. Sleepovers. That involved cards. Nonetheless, he trailed after Jolene to where the group was siting with his hands hidden behind his back.

Link sat down next to Joanne and gave her a warm smile and the same for Linebeck.

"Hm? Oh that. I made it through..." Linebeck said nonchalantly; then with pride: "I'm technically a doctor in mathematics now."

Linebeck looked at the cards calculatingly before playing them for the first round.

"Strange, eh?"

Joanne nodded and smiled, "Yep, you've always just bee that neighbor boy who went treasure hunting with Jo, but now... you're big important Dr. Linebeck!" she laughed.

Jolene flinched both at her loss of a planned trick and at how her sister had to rub slat in old wounds.

"Goddesses be damned," she muttered and drank more rum.

Tetra reached up through the night air, which could only be described as cool, and patted her bun, making sure no chunks of hair were astray. Today she wore an especially perfect bun, done carefully and specially for a full night of social activity.

She stood on the doorstep, legs spread, fists clenched, grin spread across her face, and kicked the door. Hard. "HaAAaaagh," she nearly yelped (and probably would have if she hadn't been so used to being quiet at night). "SssSssssffff."

She opted to ignore the pain and turn the doorknob instead, even if it wasn't very pirate-like.

"Door's open!" Jolene hollered, a bit distracted by the card game to be polite. The earned her a nice elbow to the gut from her sister.

The eye of all people already at the party shifted slightly to catch a look at whoever the new comer was.

At noticing a fellow pirate, Jolene found it in her to care just enough to stick a hand in the air, "Yo."

She then laid a card down and collected a trick from their game of Spades.

"Hullo kid," Linebeck also gruffly replied, but he was more interested in the cards at the moment. "Sit yerself down. Maybe ye'll get in the next around..."

Linebeck easily got a trick the next round and smiled. Jolene was not a bad card player, but today she seemed a bit out of it.

"Only a few more...to mess the others over..." Linebeck thought.

Once again, Jolene had lost a trick. Dammit, why do I always bet too high?

She scowled and glanced at Joanne to set off the "sisterly bond" deal.

Joanne smiled and greeted Tetra, "Nice to finally meet you! I've heard stories, but you were still a statue when I met Link." she explained. She then put down her card for the round, throwing it so that her sister could have some sort of pride.

Joanne then decided it would be a good idea to ask, "So, what movie do we wanna watch later? Might as well decide this stuff now."

Samus followed in only a few minutes after Tetra, noting the tiny little foot print left on the door. She knocked and found the door to be open, "Uh.. Hey." She usually wasn't late... at least unintentionally so. She took a quick glance around the room at the other pirates, "I hope I didn't hold you guys up or anything." That was probably as close to an apology as she would get for now.

Since Jolene was circling the drain on the Spades game, she would be happy to transition to something else. And with their final guest's arrival, it was the best time to do so, "No problem, you're right on time. We were just about to pick a movie to watch!" she smiled, hoping that Samus's timing would be a perfect one to end the game before she lost to Linebeck.

Joanne laughed quietly, recognizing her sister's antics and greeted, "Hi, Samus, I'm Joanne, nice to meet you!" she smiled and waved.

Samus dropped set her bag off in an inconspicuous, unoccupied corner of the room and joined the group, returning Joanne's wave. "Hi Joanne. I've heard a lot about you from Jolene's journal. Er... read about, rather."

Samus sat down on her knees, "...What are the movie choices?"

"If I know Joanne, we're gonna end up watchin' soaps..." Linebeck grumbled. "Unless ye got anything better Jo? I think I might have the old Pirates of the Caribbean movie DVD around in me pack..."

For Spades, Linebeck managed to get nothing this round. Although he made it so that Joanne and Link get more tricks, he was interested in how Jolene was being a poor spades player as she saw herself lose.
