First, IDK if you meant this, but your post here is public. <3
If it's any comfort, your reactions are normal. You're not doing anything wrong.
The "what ifs" will eat you alive-- ignore them. They are irrelevant and the point of the matter is: you all did what you could. No one MEANT harm on him. These things just... happen.
I still cry now and then over losing Friskie. She was one of my first cats, with me most of my life until a few years ago. It pains me to know she is gone. The "empty house" feeling does go away over time-- it's just normal to still be sad after the fact, you know?
Hmm... don't know if this post helps or makes any sense-- I'm kind of tired. Sorry. :C Just know I understand and wish you the best. It's never easy to lose a pet. Stay strong. <3
I lost a cat last year. She was the first pet of mine that died. It was hard. With time it gets better but you never forget them. You'll always remember their mannerisms and places they enjoyed.
Appreciate the pets you have now. That's all you can do. Don't dwell on the "what if's".
It's never easy to lose a pet. They're truly a member of the family, so feeling grieved at their loss is only natural. You're a sensitive person, you have such a giving heart and you really have a love for animals in particular - it's not surprising that it's hitting you so hard
