VCU is known for both their psychology and art programs. Other than that I think it's just a typical university, but I know when my sister was applying to get her Masters in psychology my parents thought she was missing out big time on not applying to VCU. And I knew they had an excellent art program because back in the day of applying to colleges I looked at VCU (at this time I wanted to do political science HAHAHAHAH, I still laugh) and I didn't apply because they were known primarily for their art and psychology departments. I think I'm repeating myself. It's too late to make coherent comments, but I knew I'd forget if I didn't do it now. I actually know absolutely nothing about JMU academic wise. I went for orientation there, say that they wanted an approximate 1300 SAT score (not sure what it is now, 6 years later), saw the campus, and pretty much tried to pretend I wasn't there for the rest of the tour. And I could go off all day about why I think Virginia Tech is a great college to go to (and I didn't even go there) but
( ... )
JMU's application process for their art school is frightening. Submitting a portfolio is one thing; submitting it two months from now - in person (without an appointment; just show up on "portfolio day") and have an interview with the head of the art department while you're at it. No stress there. ;)
VCU's art program does look very good - better than JMU's - but still second to Tech as far as her interests go. It all feels completely premature at this point, but I know how time flies. I think the odds of her getting into VCU would be better than Tech, but it won't hurt to try.
Ok,ok,ok! So, Dragonlance wasn't your forte...I rpomise there to be no unicorns or talking dragons in Wizard's First Rule. None. Zip, zilch, nadda! Plus, it was really good besides XD
Well, this is my second try with the Thomas Covenant series, so who know what might happen with a second try at the Dragonlance series? I haven't forgotten about Wizard's Rule either. :)
I agree whole heartedly... I had a 4.0 GPA all throughout high school and was in honor societies (that's not to make myself sound smart because I'm really not, I just was a perfectionist and a study-holic). But when it came time for scholarships/grants it was VERY difficult. But I also got frustrated with the process very early on and probably didn't apply for as many as I could have, so if your daughter has the teeniest degree more patience than I did, it hopefully WILL be a bit easier for her.
Yeah, I think the thing that sucks the most about is knowing that after doing all the work necessary just to apply for them, it is just an application and it can very easily be denied. Still, we're going to go about it in a very business-like fashion and hope for the best. If nothing else she can do the AAS at the community college and try again as a transfer student.
I registered at a place called FastWeb that does a lot the weeding through for us - of the 38 that were listed after filling out a profile, there were only two that weren't a good match, and two more that wouldn't work because the deadline is just a couple of weeks away. I look at this as my job too, because it is a lot of work. There's no way she could do this on her own and keep up with everything else that needs to be done. A lot of motivation comes from scholarships and grants being the only way she'll ever have a chance. It's definitely a case of "how bad do you want it?" So, I'll narrow them down and then she'll do her part. She knows there's a lot of necessary bullshit she'll have to do, some hoops to jump through - but if it works? Then it will be worth it in the long run. If we don't try, then we may as well just say right now that TCC it is. And TCC's program is actually very good; it's a good fallback position in case things don't work out otherwise.
