I saw two incredible bands perform live tonight: Local H and Electric Six. Local H is one of my very favorite bands of all time and Electric Six is one of my favorites of those I'm still still getting familiar with

Given that I'm not out scouting up-and-coming rock bands every week of the month, I find it rather odd that I have, in fact, seen Electric Six perform live. I saw them at a litte local bar in Indianapolis. That was probably five years ago, maybe six or even seven. This was before Danger! High Voltage was included on the Charlie's Angels soundtrack. I remember seeing that movie and going, "Hey! That's that song from that band I saw, like, a year ago!" My buddy Andre gets credit for getting me out of the house to check them out. He also got me out to see the Detroit Cobras and a band called Syrup.
Awesome. I've seen Charlie's Angels and don't remember it being on there, but that was a long time and it would have been my first time hearing it.
Cool that you have seen them. They seem to have really gotten their live show down. The frontman is entertaining and fun to watch...and has a bit of a Mighty Mighty Boss Tones vibe in both his voice and style, which is not a bad thing. One of my favorite lines of the night: "there are a lot of nice fellas out there, but I'm afraid this next one is for the ladies. This is a song about cloning."
I've heard of The Detroit Cobras, but don't believe I've heard their music. And I'm don't think I've heard of Syrup before...
One of the Cobras members was apparently in Electric 6 for a while. My friend got me to go saying that even if I wasn't 100% into the music, they were supposed to be a fun live show. I have to say I was not disappointed. I admire bands that really go all out on the entertainment aspect of a performance. Those guys really seemed to like the "everything" about a stage show. I remember their press stuff said something about the lead singer studying to be a weatherman for a while before dropping out of college to be in the band. Can't be true, but can always be amusing!
Their song was in the second Charlie's Angel's movie, I believe.
The Cobras are/were(?) a female-fronted band. Barroom rock of high quality. They did mostly covers of old, obscurish R&B songs and the like. One of their songs ended up on something like a Budweiser commercial. Good show if you can catch 'em.
I bet you'd like Deftones a little more if you heard the right songs. It took me a long time to get into them, and I still don't like a good chunk of their stuff, but there enough songs that I love now that I'll buy every album they release. Check out this acoustic live performance they did with Incubus & Adam Sandler way back in promotion of Sandler's current film at the time, Little Nicky...
and I've always loved this one featuring Maynard from Tool (also a cool fan-made vid)
Oh and speaking of Slipknot, they're another fantastic live band.
