The location in sector ten had been enough of a warning, and she was dressed in jeans, sneakers, and a plain tee-shirt. Thank goodness, since this building could use a serious cleaning. Not too bad, considering the location, but enough to make her allergies act up.
Her eyes wandered around the room, taking in what details she could while she waited to see who else was going to show up.

Still, he didn't acknowledge her much beyond a glance. He didn't take a seat immediately, either. While the others were still arriving, he paced around the room to glean what he could about who else was involved... and to check how solid this building really was. When he tired of that, he finally settled into a chair by the card table. Only Temari would probably notice he selected the most shadowy spot.

Temari returned the glance, but gave no indication of knowing him. She noted the location he sat in, and smiled a bit to herself. No one here would know what to watch out for if he decided to use his shadows.

And there were probably stranger things to see than an apartment building appearing from no where, but still, Near kept returning to the image in his mind. He wanted to sit on the floor--he preferred that; his clarity of thought was directly proportional to his proximity to the floor. But that would call additional attention, which was precisely what he wanted to avoid.
So instead, he folded himself into a chair, legs pulled up against his chest and chin tucked against his kneecaps. He wasn't wearing a mask--there was no point to it, now that Kira knew him--but it still felt strange to be outside without one. So he kept his head down, watching the rest of the people in the room from the corner of his eye. There was a pair of dice in his pocket, but he didn't take them out yet. Again, attention.

Who was this boy? The telekinetic? No, perhaps not. That man had seemed to be more confident than someone who curled up and tried to hide himself. Shiroe, perhaps? No. He doubted it. No, now that he thought about the others and what he knew of them, there were only two people who might be the young man in front of him. And since of of those two seemed to be a female, then this boy had to be Near.
He hadn't expected someone who looked so normal. Sure, Near was not as normal as, say, the young man sitting in the corner, but he certianly didn't look like the person he had expected.
Severus was disappointed by his appearance. He looked like a painfully shy teenage boy, not someone who could be as intelligent as the person with whom Severus had spoken quite a few times.

But he forces himself to look up, if only to see who is watching him. It's good to be aware, he reminds himself. To remain crouched and still could mean danger.
Ah. And it's the person who invited him here. He's known through text only, so Near surreptitiously studies him as best as he can without moving too much. He hadn't expected to see anything. The anonymity of text is something that he's used to--the letter L, stamped on the screen--and expecting a person behind it is pointless. Still, it's interesting to meet, and observe, so he raises his head slightly if only to get a better look at this person. Staring, which is often unsettling--but he doubts it will bother this person.

A dented head perhaps, or an abnormally large one, or anything strange about him. There were no physical cues that gave Severus any sort of understanding about Near. Satisfied (well, as close to satisfied as he could get), he stopped staring at Near, instead looking at the others in the room.
He knew he was still being watched, however, and after he was done scanning the room he moved over to stand in front of Near, arms folded over his chest. "Well?" He asked, his voice as hard, sharp and cold as an icicle. "Have you had your look yet, Near?"

"The door is unlocked and can be opened if anyone should wish to leave," He started, sharply. "However, if you so choose to do so be aware that you will have your memory modified so that you will forget ever coming here. Unfortunately I will not be able to erase your knowledge of this building."
He paused, allowing this information to sink into the heads of the gathered men, women and child. "Most of you are unaware of this, but when you read the address on the piece of paper, you fell under a spell. It is a harmless spell, I assure you. It is called the Fidelius charm and the purpose of it is to keep the location of this building a secret. You will not be able to tell anyone where this complex is, and even if you should lead them by here, they will not be able to see it. This is ( ... )

"I have one," he said, raising his hand slightly, "We spoke of this briefly, but what, exactly, do you believe we'll find if we look under this lake?"

"I assume that you all have heard of the 'Core', that may or may not be to blame for our appearance here? It has been lost for some time. This 'Core' was supposed to be responsible for the city's first 'meltdown' - the one that made it into what it is today."
Severus frowned. "I am not certain, but I believe that it may be at the bottom of the lake. If it is not, then perhaps it is something similar to this long lost 'Core'. Whatever it is, it can be very dangerous and unpredictable. There have been reports of the lake boiling in winter, and freezing over in summer. Even if it is not the 'Core', whatever it is should be discovered and removed - for public safety if nothing else."

Something in his voice, however, made it clear that he was skeptical about this having anything to do with the safety of others. Everyone was desperate to find their way out of this world.

It wasn't difficult to hide wonder, but to hide something, one needed a will to do so. Being surprised over jumping buildings seemed like an alright thing, so Shiroe didn't bother to tone his grin down, thumbs looped into a slightly patched, very frayed backpack holding the walking machine-- maybe Snape didn't need it, but then again, maybe he would. Besides, he could stop by Alecaonia's garage on the home, see if the humanoid had anything to spare that would add to it. If there was time for it, anyway- this investigation would either be a waste or a success, though with the jumping buildings display alone (not to mention that secretive spell: no, he wasn't too happy over that, but it was already done) there was probably a bit more of a chance for success.Or something like it. Even finding a giant, rotting, mutant squid would have been worth it ( ... )

It had occurred to him that the contents of the bag might be benign - nothing more than a few sandwiches and a thermos of coffee - but he doubted that it would be that easy. The backpack shifted in quite suspicious ways when it was moved.
"You are?" He asked. "And what do you have in your bag?"

"Shiroe." A straight turn, gaze up and posture fairly relaxed. "Nice to meet you formally, Mr. Snape. It isn't a weapon or anything; only the robot, for if you decide you want to test its capabilities." For whatever reason. Again, he didn't truly expect the man to, but it was better to be prepared than scrambling, when they were already a makeshift group.

Severus hesitated - a very calculated hesitation. "I would not want to send someone down there without making sure that the area is safe." Severus' face gave no recognizable hints that he was lying. There were some things that needed to be said in order to assure these people that Severus was not going to just lead them to their deaths.

This caused him to wander over to the elevator and even pressed the call button seeing if it worked. Realizing it didn't he moved to look at the papers on the table.

"Do you see something that interests you?" He asked. So far, Severus had seen no one else move to examine the papers - a collection of maps, printouts of old newsfeeds, copies of newspaper articles from long ago. But this boy seemed to be doing it. Was it because he was interested in them, or just restless?

"Exactly what are these maps of? And why are these newspaper articles important?"
