A while ago, prophetic asked me to do a "top ten" of the Used's music. I have a hard time ranking things -- my brain is nothing more than a series of caveats, really -- but I think I can do something like it by writing a rec post
( Read more... )
I got this far: It's common for fans to think that Frank is the one who does the backup on that song, but it's actually Bert. Why a line so irrelevant to my life can make me smile so much, god knows. It must be the magic of S#nsense.
I'll try and download some of this later and return to point, silently.
You were one I was worried about! You will judge me, and judge me harshly, be forewarned. Put your judging galoshes on, or whatever. (Your judging waders?)
Why a line so irrelevant to my life can make me smile so much, god knows. It must be the magic of S#nsense. That quite tickled me. Thank you for passing along the smile -- it was sorely needed today.
Dude, I don't judge! I feel that way about a lot of their simple-simple songs. Paralyzed, for example. I have gotten so many things out of that song that totally aren't there. Woe.
I really do wish they'd steer away from the super-sappy, overall. Earthquakes has this weird spot in my heart, and I Caught Fire, but overall they make me kind of cranky. (Well, and Blue and Yellow. Because exactly, sopuresopure.) I like LftL best, though, mostly for the direction their sound developed in. And then the next one! I'm excited about the next one.
I already have all of these, sans the piano arrangement which I am snagging OMG, but I just wanted to love on you a little. BERT IS THE BIRD. ALSO, HIS BACKPACK IS ALL THAT HE KNOWS.
BERT IS SO THE BIRD. I don't know, I like thinking about how that song is both about him-and-Gerard, but also about him-and-himself. Bert: the slash gift that keeps on giving.
The piano arrangement. Man. It just... I love it. It's one of my favorites. It's all melody-melody-CHAOTIC CRASH-melody, and it's just right for the Used.
oh i was going to get the few i didn't already have, but i might wait for the zip and then delete doubles. thankyou so much for going to all this trouble.
(and yes. they're on the list for things to buy.)
also, i refuse to understand musical elitism. i have real baggage about it in the classical music arena and i hate that it's even more evident in rock etc.
all that stuff is bullshit. (in my humble and widely sought after opinion. ha)
however, knowing what you like and don't like is completely cool. and not liking a type of music is just life. like taste in food. i don't like celery and am allergic to slide guitar. and the beach boys. *shrug*
Zips are probably going up tomorrow, and that sounds like a sensible plan. I'm glad you like them, really glad, actually. I had a feeling you would.
I tried really hard to have indie cred when I was younger, but I realized eventually that it's kind of pointless. Anyway, trying to have cred is what keeps people from having a good time. My mom's been a good role model on that front; she may be over fifty, but she's rocking out to rap and stuff, because she refuses to cut anything off before she's had a listen.
