Rinzler was around earlier than expected though for the most part he stayed out of sight and left well enough alone. However, for some period he watched the transformed dragon before finally approaching exactly on time. At first, the cats did not interest him in the least.
He approached Jin purposefully, making himself known through visual contact rather than saying anything in greeting. He waited patiently from a comfortable distance to be noticed and acknowledged.
Jin looks up at the sound of approach and recognizes Rinzler immediately. These Grid guys sure like helmets. Up close Jin is more reminded of a motorcyclist than anything. Anon was fairly different.
"Hi, Rinzler! I'm glad you came."
The cats bound up onto Jin's shoulders in a single fluid motion and narrow their eyes at Rinzler. While his appearance could be called normal, the sense from him is like a machine. Too much like a machine for their liking. They say nothing, but their tails are lashing. Jin reaches up to touch their heads.
"It's okay guys, trust me. Um, this is Tick and Tock! They're gonna fight with me."
The movement catches Rinzler's attention but still he has no interest in the mechanical cats. It isn't until Jin mentions they will be fighting with him that suddenly all the interest in the world is focused on the small creatures. He tilts his head at one of them, gazing curiously at it.
He didn't think something that size was much of a threat, even with those claws. And the other was even less so.
However, he noted that appearances were deceiving--Kusanagi taught him that--and the mechanical nature of them would make them different from organic material. They might have been easy to crush beneath his boot but he hoped they would be more of a challenge than the simple act implied.
His gaze centered back on Jin. He simply nodded in acknowledgment.
The cats tilt their heads right back, and Tick's eye zooms in on him, quietly taking some basic readings. They seem to be conferring with each other in silence. Jin reaches up to pat their heads gently.
"Heh, not very talkative, huh? Well, um, do you want to get started right away, or...?"
"At your preference," Rinzler replies simply. He isn't in any rush--he wouldn't show impatience had he felt it--and despite his insistence that he doesn't take commands from Users anymore it's literally written in his code to be obedient and submissive. And somewhere beneath that there is still the lingering directive to fight for the Users. He can only ignore it so much.
This Rinzler guy can always be counted on to be straightforward. It's a little refreshing and reminds Jin of Sirius back home. He smiles a little.
"Well, alright then! I guess we can get right to it." He glances at the cats. "You ready, guys?"
They don't answer. The clockwork cats immediately start glowing white and then flash brightly, vanishing behind the blinding light and seeming to warp and change. The light spreads, lengthens and sinks neatly into Jin's waiting hands. Abruptly the light fades, and Jin is holding a long silvery scythe. The blade is huge and curves wickedly, and where the tang should be there is what looks like a large clock gear. The cats are nowhere to be seen, but the gear shows exactly where they've gone.
Jin whips the scythe in a circle to get a feel for it.
"Okay, so--actually wait, don't you have a weapon?" He studies Rinzler, searching for a sword or gun or something.
Rinzler watched with some fascination as the two mechanical creatures were transformed into something more useful. He supposed it was useful. It looked more or less useful for combat. Not the first choice of weapon he would have chosen but at least not the last.
He wondered why the multitool had been created to be in a set of sentient felines but it wasn't any of his concern. He debated pulling out a baton to match the other fighter but decided against it. His discs would always be his favorite.
He didn't answer verbally but simply reached over his shoulder to pull the double disc from his back and, with a familiar flourish, split it into its two full discs. Another physical impossibility from the look of things but it was typical in his world.
The enforcer bent down into a wide horse stance, discs held out at chest level, and was ready to begin.
Jin raised his eyebrows as Rinzler produced the disk and again when he split it in two. He's not really sure what they are, but they look like chakrams. Though they can't be, because who uses chakrams anymore? It must be something Grid related. They do look a bit like digital disks, after all.
Rinzler seems to be ready. Jin swings his scythe around and then holds it in one hand at an angle, outstretched behind him. The other hand he stretches forward, palm out in a ready stance.
"Alright, then, here we go!"
For a moment he's still as a pond. Then in the next instant he's charging forward, scythe swinging out behind him to reduce drag. He's fast, faster than some skinny teenager should be.
Rinzler barely comprehends that the boy is faster than a human should be; all he is concerned with at the moment is concentrating on winning the Game. And to be frank, the boy may be fast but he's only on parallel with the enforcer program.
At first the program stands his ground, doesn't move while Jin rushes at him with all that speed--then he, too, dashes forward. He doesn't bother with meeting the boy head-on. He leaps high into the air, somersaulting over Jin's head, and landing perfectly behind the still running boy. He hadn't even fully absorbed the landing's impact before the first disc is out of his hand and flying towards Jin.
Holy crap this guy is fast. Machine fast. That's to be expected, and in the back of his mind Jin is quietly noting how convenient this all is. If any of these programs ever go rogue or threaten anyone, Jin will know their moves; know how to handle it. But he hopes it never comes to that--he likes these guys.
He reacts cat-quick, skidding in the grass and turning just enough to see the disc and its trajectory. He ducks low and swings his scythe, turning it in his hand as he does so so that the scythe is facing tang out. The blade can cut through every substance Jin has ever encountered save for one, and he doesn't want to damage the disc by accident. It seems important; he remembers Anon having one too.
He swings and hits the disc with the scythe's clock gear, the contact shooting off sparks, and the disc goes ricocheting off. Jin doesn't pause, using the momentum to shoot himself into a run again, charging at Rinzler and swinging the scythe in a downward arc.
He approached Jin purposefully, making himself known through visual contact rather than saying anything in greeting. He waited patiently from a comfortable distance to be noticed and acknowledged.
