Bend it Like Beckham was a huge and mainstream hit in the U.S. It grossed over $32 million US.
Babette's Feast was also a major release and won the Oscar for best foreign language film - and was well received before it won. Even now, almost 30 years after it was made, you can find restaurants recreating the Feast.
I saw Run Lola Run in a mainstream theater here. Yes, it was a very strange film, but I liked it.
Au Revoir Les Enfants may not have had the same widespread appeal as either Babette's Feast or Bend It Like Beckham, but it's a fairly well known film here, too. Of course, it helped that Louis Malle was Candace Bergen's husband, and had significant Hollywood cred, too.
