Excerpts from Minutes from Sunnydale Senior Staff Meeting, Tuesday May 18th 1999
Present: Principal Snyder, Department Heads, Rupert Giles (invited)
Apologies: Dolores Aster, Mathematics (PTSD counselling session)
Absences: Jefferson Thomas, Social Sciences (deceased)
Agenda:
1) Student Behaviour (weapons)
2) Graduation
3) Preliminary Budget Discussions: Learning Resources
4) Matters arising
1) Following the recent incident involving Jonathan Levinson it was been proposed the policy on student weapons should be revised and a total ban levied. An amendment was proposed by Rupert Giles, who suggested that religious weapons should still be acceptable, provided that they conform to regulations previously determined by school policy. The amendment was approved and the ban passed, to be enforced from the new academic year.
2) Principal Snyder announced the commencement speaker for senior graduation has been confirmed as Mayor Richard Wilkins III. Remarks by Rupert Giles upon this announcement have been stricken from the record. His proposal that the traditional musical selection of Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance be replaced with Nearer My God To Thee was not seconded and the motion denied.
3) Rupert Giles was asked to defend the continued existence of his after-school Local History & Archaeology Club despite low numbers (current membership: 5) and repeated acts of school vandalism attributed to those members (see previous minutes for previous meetings).
Mr Giles reiterated that the need for such a club had been based on the increased interest in the occult as demonstrated by the recent school census in which the overwhelming majority (72%) of the student body listed their religion as pagan / pantheon. The fact that aforementioned club has not attracted the predicted membership could possibly be attributed to the scheduling of meetings against cheerleading, swim team and yearbook.
Mr Giles reminded Senior Staff that the alleged acts of vandalism could not be solely, or indeed conclusively attributed to the members of this particular club and that school policy (as ratified by the student body constitution) did not allow for the dictation of membership criteria to the faculty member responsible for overseeing any after-school activity.
Mr Giles also reminded those present that school policy also ensured that all after-school clubs were entitled to the equal allocation of funds from the yearly academic budget and as such, he was sure that the shortfall in monies allocated to the Local History & Archaeology Club was merely an oversight that would be corrected without delay. Principal Snyder's comments at this juncture were stricken from the record.
4) Principal Snyder reminded staff to continue to be vigilant regarding the continued reports of underdressed female intruder understood to be going by the name of Faith. Faith is believed to have committed acts of burglary, violence and vandalism on school property and may or may not be associating with Buffy Summers.
Finally, despite several student sightings, rumours of wild dogs and vicious crab-like spiders remain unsubstantiated.
After some amiably reconciled difficulties of staff and room availability, the next senior staff meeting was scheduled for Tuesday 1st June, barring the apocalypse.
