So I asked whether or not you liked sex in in your fiction.

Of course we're talking well done sex.

But that's subjective, isn't it?

Some folks like their sex taseful, while others like it--tasty. Some people prefer euphemisms, while other people prefer the latinate terms. While penis, cock, and manhood all refer to the same anatomical piece, those ( Read more... )

I just read Stross's 'Halting State' and I felt that it suffered from this -- two of the main characters hooked up and it seemed unlikely to me that similar people in real life would, particularly given everything else that was going on.

Well, I wouldn't say that you have to use it, but most definitely if you want to knock some boots in the third act, it's gotta be there.

The female version can be when the rich, powerful, incredibly handsome elf-vampire-prince makes googoo eyes at the nerdy femme who loves to bake . . . who is also the first person narrator of the story.

Yes, I think all are fine (mostly--I'm cool with silken petals, but not so much with manhood), as long as they fit in. And of course, this changes from decade to decade with me. I used to not care for the latinate, but now I find the term erection occasionally strangely effective.
