Hey. I just finished the first episode of Hana Yori Dango and wanted to let you know.
Mostly I'm just thinking... wow. That's different. I am so used to American tv shows (and to a lesser extent British shows) that it's a hard adjustment. Esp. how the "hot" boys look. The hair! The hair! And the opening credits had me o_O. Plus, I just know it's going to take me forever to remember their names and even longer to be able to pronounce them. I know, I know. Way to be a stereotypical insular American!
Anyway, I really like the female character. She's adorable. And her family is CRAZY, but lovable. And I dunno. There isn't much more for me to say at this point. But yes I am hating on F4. Even the quiet-I'msotiredofthis guy irks me. Actually maybe more than all the others. If I'm supposed to be impressed/intrigued by him I'm not. And as for the lead guy, I keep having Logan flashes. Poor little rich boy!
I know, I know. Way to be a stereotypical insular American! LOL I love that you shared that experience -- I never really had that but, seeing this new show/fandom/culture from your perspective, it's fascinating!
I still have problems with pronunciation & I've been watching Japanese shows for years! There is just such a big difference between how we pronounce things in English & how they pronounce things in Japanese. That's one of the reasons I enjoy watching these shows, it's definitely helping my Japanese studies. :D
And as for the lead guy, I keep having Logan flashes. Poor little rich boy!I agree! And, well, so do a lot of people -- see this icon I found recently. XD

Oh, maybe you can explain why in the opening credits near the end they are all fake screaming? I so do not get that.
That icon of yours is perfect.
I just saw episode 2 and the Cinderella vibes were like WOAH. And the ending... lol, yes people just fall on each other and land in that position!
So far I feel like I know nothing of the other two in the group and would have a hard time identifying them out of a line up.
I am fascinated by the Not!Logan's interest in Makino.
And on a shallow note - that white turtleneck that Rui was wearing - no! But that England sweatshirt she was wearing - for some reason I thought she looked so good in that. And of course when she was all dolled up.
My interest in Japanese stuff started in the late 90s with Sailor Moon -- that's what got me into anime & manga and why I was originally to interested to learn Japanese. I lost interest for awhile but then I started reading manga again in 2007. Nowadays they're turning many manga stories into live-action shows & thus a new television obsession was born. Hana-Kimi & its manga are pretty much to blame thank for where I am today. :D (The actor who plays Rui in HYD, Oguri Shun, is in Hana-Kimi & it only gets more interesting; if you think that British & Canadian television are a bit incestous with their casting, they don't hold a candle to Japanese casting.)
There really isn't a point to the opening credits. It's basically just them being dorks. And wait until you start season 2! :P

I had some SMG flashbacks when I read that interview; I've only seen one season of Gilmore Girls so maybe I don't have any room to talk but it sounded like Lauren had given up on the show before it was over. I remember hearing about all the drama that was happening towards the end (the creator leaving & all), so she probably had reason to cut her emotional ties to the show.
I don't know, maybe I'm talking out of my ass a bit. :P
LOL I had the same experience with Rosemary's Baby -- the book was a wreck, the movie was better. I find that happens a lot with the classics.
I think that with AbFab, they're going to have to make it a lot like The Office -- keeping the core relationships & setting the same, but adapting everything else. You're definitely right about how iconic the characters & basically the whole series are. They've got their work cut out for them.
