The lack-of-clients + lack-of-tech-action state of direness accurately describes what the last half of 2014 was like here too, and why I'm glad that, as crazy as it is right now to balance the workload of two careers, there is finally feast (FSV of "feast" that looks more like a binge-and-purge cycle...) instead of previous famine. I'm glad your private practice is picking up, and I'm keeping fingers crossed for you on the interview front, as well.
I'm also delighted that Patreon is working out for you. I've been urged repeatedly to look into it, but I already have one career in which I write for a living, and already can't keep up with content for the blog on my professional website (which also needs a design overhaul), so no Patreon for me. Here's hoping it starts paying your rent for you, though :)
Thank you. ♥ I confess I haven't been following your journal closely because your own circumstances are so anxiety-provokingly close to mine. I am glad to hear things are finally turning around for you, too! I will poke my nose in more often.
ETA: Re Patreon, yeah, sounds like not a good fit for you. But I will say, I was surprised by how many words it turns out I have in me. I assume nobody else was really surprised by this, but I was. :) There's something to be said for the experience of taking oneself out to the salt flats and opening up the throttle to see how fast and far one goes.
I have *often* commented that we seem to be living each other's lives :). The anxiety has shifted focus considerably, but we'll see where things go after the current $DAYJOB contract ends later this year (I'll try to remember to give you warning, "SIDEREA! STOP LOOKING NOW!" if things look to be sliding sideways again :)
Are you familiar with Hay House? I just this week heard about a writer's retreat in Maui. Wayne Dyer is one of the presenters. Business writeoff, yo! ;) (Would totally love to say I'd meet you there, but it's Tough Mudder weekend, argh.). But I do have therapist friend wanting to share a room, if you decided to go (and go alone).
Also, do you know of any good tax calculators? Or if I'm best off simply looking at the tax tables? I was kind of hopeful to start 'preloading' info into TaxAct for next year so no surprises, but that doesn't seem to be an option. I'd like my personal attempts at withholding to be about on but over and with such variable income I'm not going to presume last year's numbers.
As one of the total strangers, I know you only as a writer. To my mind you're somewhere between journalist, pundit, and memoirist, I suppose. How are those for words you didn't have for yourself yesterday?
There is something weirdly real-making about filling out government related forms, even though doing paperwork seems like the most artificial and non-real thing one could do!
