Smackdowns for your delight and edification

Both via cynthia1960:

An open letter from yuki_onna and one from Hal Duncan in response to John C Wright and others who have been letting their assholes show.

My favourite line from yuki_onna:
It's a pretty simple equation, really. Limited lifespan divided by number of books it's possible to consume due to vagaries of money and mortality equals I am not buying your books if ( Read more... )

I just love Duncan's screed.

I very much like what I've read so far, but 5400 words of low-contrast text is more than my eyes can manage in one go.

Actually it's not low-contrast so much as the patterned background that's making my eyes cross. I've actually copy/pasted his response into another window in order to be able to read it.

I had the same problem. View -> Page Style -> No Style is my friend.

I tried to formulate a response to that guy and could only come up with two words, so I'm very glad that Cat and Hal made the effort.

I think perhaps I came up with the same two words :)

At least you had words. I think all I managed was a strangled cry of horror and rage.

Just to say thank you for the links and for the lovely Dumas comparison. (I love Dumas, for all his flaws, with a love that goes back to my teens.) The icon here is from an early copy of La Dame de Monsoreau.

Er... you're very welcome, and I'm rather fond of Dumas myself, but my line was really something of a riff off Brust explaining "The Phoenix Guards". As far as I remember he said something like "Like Dickens, Dumas was paid by the word. Dumas had more fun with it."
