second ✧ [video] ❝all in the hands of a bitter, bitter man❞

[The Doctor is no stranger to violence, despite his personal views. He's certainly not managed to overlook the fact that they're all stuck here because of this war. But it's different, even for him--especially for him--to see what this one entails up close and personal, when he has to stop running away and watch. The journal is open against the ( Read more... )

[ a little saddened: ] Gung-ho, huh? God, I wish it would help. I really, really wish it would.

[ it isn't that she has lost hope -- but...getting shouty never seems to do any of them any good. ]

It's fine; there's nothing to be done about it now, I know that. But I am a very patient man. [he's been flipping levels and pressing switches very deliberately, muttering a little under his breath at the console, but after a moment or two he squints into the camera as if trying to see her] You all right, Summers?

[ she holds up both hands -- waggling her fingers. ] Made it through all in one piece. Kind of a specialty of mine.

[he nods slightly] Yes, I suppose you have a lot of practice in making it through in one piece. Useful habit. Glad to see it.

...the last I heard, the medical efforts in the plaza had quieted down a bit. Most of us were dropped off at our homes.

But that's where you'll want to look for people still needing help.

Doesn't have to be medical. Anything you need.

...I need it to be the thirteenth of June already.

Or the night of the fifth. Th-That, that would be just as good.

...jammy dodgers, if you have any left over.

I don't know.

If I could get my blasted--[there's more clanging, and a sort of mechanical wheeze as his ship protests]--box moving again, I'd take you to both. I've still got biscuits, though, that one I can do. Shall I come to you?

[... I am so confused. What's the best way to reply to this, via confusion? Hmm, well, she's learned being angry or mad is just no good. It means you're not happy. And that? That's awful.]

You sound really upset... Do you... um. Do you want some ice cream? It's sweet, but it's really cold, too, so sometimes your head hurt if you eat it too fast...

[who's a precious bitty amnesiac, who is? you are! For Baby Sayo, he puts on a little smile, because even if they've sort of been forced into that size, children always make him feel better.]

Ahh, who's a smart girl, then? Ice cream, that's right, would you like some? I'll let you eat it with the scoop and everything.

[Scoop. Scoop's, uh. A fancy word for a spoon, she reckons. Maybe. We'll figure it out as we go.]

And you can stack different kinds, if you want. We can have more than one kind...! There are a lot to choose from... I don't even know them all.

[Robert's voice is small, sad, afraid... but there's a sliver of hope.]

...

I-If you remember...

... th-then perhaps you could teach others, a-about this place. And w-we could remember, too.

...

I-I... I want to remember. E-Even if there are m-more horrors here than I c-could have ever imagined... I-I want to remember.

Don't you worry, Robert. It might take some time, but I've got all the time in the world. Nothing is ever really forgotten.

I c-certainly hope that is true, Doctor... th-there is too much here to lose.

...

L-like the knowledge of... the fact I c-can make friends, now...

[And the knowledge of his partner. Don. He can't leave Don.]

Of course it's true. [his voice is much kinder than it's previously been, much more the tone everyone is used to hearing.] Trust me. Even if you don't think you do, you'll always remember that, deep down in your heart, buried on your mind so deep you can't get rid of it if you tried.

...It would be great if someone could do something about the Moss-o, huh?

[Not exactly the violent type here, but Keimi is tired of seeing her friends get hurt.]

Someone will, no doubt about that. All these people here--there's only so far you can push a pack of humanoid lifeforms before they push back, and hard. What's your name, my dear?

Sir! [he smiles for real, straightening his bowtie, amused] That's new. Call me the Doctor, Keimi, it's very nice to meet you too. Everything all right with you?
