Plots (of the fictional variety)

Here's the thing about TV shows--they're fun, but you could drive a train through the plot holes. Or character inconsistencies. Oh well, I'm not really watching the HTTYD Netflix series for a good tight storyline anyway. Yeah. I love Neville. You're absolutely right that he owns up, when he could have just let it go, but if he hesitated, it really was only for five seconds. People always say he got braver in the later books, and obviously he still has a long way to go to "when hell freezes over - Dumbledore's Army!" but it was always there. (Even in PS/SS, really, when he stands up to the trio. Which almost caused the literal end of the world, but it's the spirit of the thing.)

It's so obvious on the reread all his little moments of bravery. It's not the flashy kind of courage but the inner kind that is harder to spot. He has a long way to go to DH!Neville, yes, but I'd argue that he doesn't increase in bravery; he just increases in confidence and self belief.
